These 600K SFH's, how much of a commute to the major employment centers?

15 minutes from the beach and 20 minutes from downtown los angeles. L.A. isn't like NYC where there are real centers of employment, it is spread out fairly.

I'd avoid the one on Indian Hill.

I have no plans to live in that part of town :jest:

Seriously, though if that's what someone earning $100k can hope to buy on the Westside, I think it shows how far we have to go before the housing market corrects itself

LoL, you shouldn't venture into Santa Monica then

I have been monitoring Santa Monica as well! The difference between CC and SM is that rich people who earn $200k+ actually want to live in SM - although I believe the people who think their investments north of Montana will be "safe" are probably deluding themselves.

According to the Inflation Calculator at BLS.GOV, $1 in 2000 has the same buying power as $1.24 in 2009. So anyone making $100,000 in 2000 should be making $124,000 today to just keep up with inflation.

This makes me feel good since my income has just about than tripled in that time span. :D

Not mine. The fixed component of my compensation, in 'real' terms, is just about 15% higher than it was in 2000 :(

Speaking of inflation....oh, this just wins all. According to everything I've read, last year we experienced Deflation. I think I'm not alone there, right?

Inflation

So, what the F is up with California? I just got my annual property tax assessment and here's what it says:

(on the back, line item #5) "In accordance with Proposition 13, an annual inflation factor of up to 2% must be added to the base year value. The inflation factor is 2.00% this year. (its underlined just like that)" Therefore, my property tax will be 2% more this year than last year. Now, I realize that according to some people on this forum it should be more, but #######??
