A charge of animal abuse has been filed against a woman, 75, who allegedly beat a fawn to death with a shovel. The fawn was in her flower bed.

...

Richardson allegedly told neighbors the fawn wouldn't leave so she went into her garage, got a shovel, and hit the animal several times in the head.

A Waynoka Road man, in his witness's letter to the animal warden, said the fawn weighed about 25 pounds.

The man allegedly overhead Richardson telling a neighbor about the killing.

"From what I understood," the man wrote, "the fawn was basically screaming. As she was beating it, she was asking it if it was dead yet."

Living near a large county park, I've seen the damage these animals can do to people and property. I can't see the imhumane treatment at all; but I can see being angry enough to get there.

We have deer within a mile of us, so far not a problem, but those rabbits. Had planted over 200 bucks worth of evergreens, all dead and eaten to the ground. On our motorhome trip to Milwaukee, told my wife I put the charcoal grille in the motorhome with a fresh bag of charcoal. She said, why didn't you tell me? Thought I did, she didn't bring any meat along. Just about every mile driving through our woods to get there, saw a dead something or another laying on the road, mostly young deer.

Just said, There's Meat!

We heard about a guy that was caught putting a freshly killed deer in his truck, was fined for doing that without a license. What the hell, just leave that dang thing there on the side of the road to rot away?

Another thing I have observed about our society is that it is very humane to put a pet to sleep. Our last Shepherd got torsion on a holiday weekend with all the good vets gone, nearest place I could find was 200 miles away, but would be way too late to save him. Our only but very sad option was to have him put to sleep, he was in extreme agony. But a different story with people dying of cancer in a hospital room, damn doctors don't even like prescribing pain medication as that goes against their record. Just let the poor b@stard die slowly in misery, that's the kind of society we live in.

I am sorry about that, but is there anything I said not true? What's really ironic due to our poor economy, our DNR extended the deer hunting season an extra week last year. Their reasons? The population was so great, poor things would starve to death during our harsh winters, and last winter was extremely harsh. Which is why the rabbits attacked our evergreens, nothing else for the poor things to eat.

In case you are wondering, getting a deer license is not cheap, practically cheaper just to buy deer meat.

Can you just buy deer meat? I like to eat it; but never had it unless someone shot one. Never thought about just going out and buying some.

Certainly can in Wisconsin, especially in the smaller towns, in my case, can get plenty of it for free, have way too many friends that would rather shoot than eat.

I know a hunter or two... and yeah... when it's all said and done it IS cheaper to just buy the meat, the tags and everything else that goes into it are expensive (especially the tags though).

In alaska there is a road kill list of sorts, when someone hits a moose they call whoever is next on the list to come get it. Moose getting hit is pretty common, a lot of the time the car is totaled but the moose is not. (They may not have the roadkill list anymore, I haven't lived there in almost 20 years).

Fishing is that way too, cost of the boat, trailer, gear, huge amount for gasoline, then the license, then the DNR game wardens to make sure what you caught is a mm above the limits. Use to love Lake Michigan coho fishing, but today, we have way too many laws, and they tell you not to eat what you caught because of mercury and PCB's. When I see wild caught filleted salmon in the stores for 8-10 bucks a pound, say that is cheap.

Yeah, I said this before, this country is going to hell. Use to pay a buck a night for state park camping, now 30-40 bucks a night, and the current group of campers are all slobs.
