Time for a Christian Revolutionary War

I see that. Maybe a course on religion or this website may help you understand: Oneness vs Trinity

Ok, I can sort of see the difference. It's a question of "God being one, manifesting himself in three ways" vs "God consisting of three beings".

It all makes sense now.

The Trinity is a difficult topic, without doubt. In fact, it is a mystery. God does consist of one essence in three persons. The best way to think of the Trinity is:

The Essence of God is one (Deuteronomy 6:4)

Three persons of distinction share in the one essence of God. (Matthew 28:19) This 'distinction' is how God interacts with mankind via the invisible missions of the Father (creation of the universe), and the visible missions of the Son (incarnation/ascension) and the invisible mission of the Holy Spirit (indwelling within man following the Father/Son's sending of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost)

I remember when I was taking a class in my Masters of Theology program that it was incredibly difficult to grasp and even harder to explain. But I believe...and once in a while I even try to explain it with words :innocent:

Peace,

It just says 'under god' it doesn't say which god.

This is a fair and very poignant statement Madame Cleo. Personally, I would like to see a lot more GOD in the United States, and a lot more people willing to discuss God in a rational manner, one that is appreciative of the greatness of God.

We don't need a Christian revolutionary war like the Pastor suggests. However, I think that we'll see more comments like this in the upcoming years, because of the fundamentalist movements which we currently see rising in the USA. What we really need is some intelligence in our conversations regarding God.

I will say that I did not agree with Obama's statements that we are not a country of Christians, but rather a country of citizens. That statement seemed to take God (in whatever form of worship) out of America...and...I don't think (or at least hope not) that this is the case. God is here in our great country.

Maybe you missed the point -- There are more religious people than just christians in this country. Just because someone isn't christian doesn't mean they aren't religious. You can take the christian out of our overall national identity without taking out the "godliness". I think identifying ourselves as one particular type of religion on a national over-reaching level is against all of our freedom of religion values.

What about the Jews? What about the Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, Native Americans, and Agnostics? ALL of these people might feel that they are "under god" but not christian. Narrowing it down that much makes it much more exclusive than our values should permit.

Hello Nik+Heather,

You and I are on the same page. I 100% agree with your comments. I perhaps just didn't state my opinion well in my post...

For the Obama quote, when he said 'not a Christian nation'...my perception was that he was taking 'God' out of the USA (whether that God was revealed through Judiasm / Christianity / Muslim / Hindu / Native Americans / Agnostics / Angel worshippers / et al..) My interpretation was that he was taking 'GOD' out of the USA...not just Christianity...and that is the difficulty that I had. I interpreted his statement as meaning that we in the USA are merely 'citizens'...meaning 'No God'...which, without trying to be political at all, would fit well with his agenda.

I hope that makes more sense and thanks for giving me the opportunity to clarify. (if indeed this did clarify)

Peace,

MarkNAAm
