My fiance is in China, and I researched some threads regarding the time line. is it me, or does it seem that China K1's take longer than normal? i see some other ones with the whole process taking 6 months, but China ones from the one I've seen are taking 9+months. Opinions welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Guangzhou is the busiest consulate in the world. They normally take 3 - 4 months to get to your case after NVC sends it to them. We were lucky enough to go from NOA2 to P3 in only a month, but we're the exception rather than the rule.

10-28-2008 - I-129F petition in the mail

11-03-2008 - NOA1

03-26-2009 - NOA2

04-23-2009 - P3

06-11-2009 - P4

07-16-2009 - interview - APPROVED

07-22-2009 - visa in hand

08-05-2009 - US entry

09-13-2009 - wedding

10-20-2009 - AOS application in the mail

10-28-2009 - NOA

11-25-2009 - biometrics appointment

12-18-2009 - EAD approved

12-22-2009 - EAD card received

01-28-2010 - interview - APPROVED

02-12-2010 - green card received

11-07-2011 - I-751 petition in the mail

11-10-2011 - NOA

aggreed that china is busy. the GUZ consulate handles all immigrant and K1 visas, as well as most of the business/tourist/student visas, with assistance from beijing in the latter cases. china is also funny about K1, in general. china is seen on the border between "high fraud" and intermediate fraud" in regard to K1. lots of denials in recent months indicate a growing intolerance. denial rationale includes language barrier, not much face time, age gap if over 20 years, immediate relatives of the bene brokering the marriage or living close to US destination, etc.

you are in china as an english teacher? be sure that when your sweety goes she has your passport clipped to the outside of her folder and that she explains that you are living in china with her and you are golden. i was living in china but on a 2 week business trip in milwaukee when my wife interviewed. she said that as soon as the VO saw the photobook of the years we had lived together and the certified copies of all of the chinese visas and entry stamps from my passport that we were good to go.

if you havn't already, you should join another forum called candleforlove.com , similar to VJ but dedicated to China ONLY.

WARNING! Do not go to candleforlove.com for anything but strictly visa advise. Members and admins there are notorious for being intolerant. Better to just read and ask questions. Do not engage in much talk outside your question.

I am amazed at how certain people here tell everyone to go to CFL. The same sage advice is available here in the China forum, without all the destructive voices at CFL.

Sorry, you did not say go there for only visa advise and people must know that is the only reason to go to CFL, not for anything else. You should also say you can get the SAME ADVISE here without all the drama at CFL.

didn't you have some drama yourself, yesterday, here on VJ?[/url]

No. I had no drama.

If VJ and CFL are the same (they're not) then why tell people to go to CFL? Face it, VJ is for visa journey, CFL is for American men who married Chinese women to talk about stuff. NOT THE SAME AT ALL. All I am saying is if you go to CFL, just ask visa questions if you want and don't do anything else. BUT, you can ask the same visa questions here and get the same quality advice.

Yes, it is true that Guangzhou takes longer to process visas than many other consulates around the world for the reasons already given by others - namely that it is one of if not the busiest consulates as far as visa processing goes. My fiancee just had her K-1 interview last month and it took just under 9 months, so that does seem to be about the current timeframe.

thanks guys for all the input. I'm new at this so I'm still learning. I am actually Chinese American myself around the age of 30 and my fiance is one year younger than me. Will that make it harder or easier?

Also, I can't find the income requirement for sponsorship? Will it take longer if I find a co sponsor?

Thanks!

having similar age is always a plus, for the current poverty guideline, have a look here http://www.masslegalhelp.org/court/125perc...delines-article co-sponsor will not slow anything down because it will be presented during the interview.

Similar ages makes it easier, but you must still show a valid relationship.

Some of the best guides around are right here at VJ. See http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...amp;page=guides

The income requirement is the same for you or a sponsor, 125% of the poverty level. It will not take any longer if you have a sponsor.
