Hi everyone!

So Im just back from Oregon and Shari and I are engaged! I am so happy!

So here it begins.....

Any tips for starting the K1 process?

When I write the cheque for the first petition do I make it out in $ even though I have a British account?

Shari is coming here for 6mts on a work visa through BUNAC, will this bare any effect on the process?

Any advice for the early days really appreciated!

Love to everyone

First of all, Congratulations! :D

Secondly, as far as the check, I would recommend transferring the money to her and HER paying the fee from her American checking account. The first part of the K1 process is pretty much "ran" by the US Citizen. They are the ones that fill out and gather the vast majority of the paperwork. The US Citizien must petition for the foreign citizen to be brought into the country. It's great that you are investigating, but I'd recommend she gets onto this too.

Have no idea about the work visa, sorry!

ummmmm why don't you just get unenaged, and then marry her while she's here on the work visa, like right before she leaves? oh, oh because that would be fraud... since you're already engaged... sorry, I forgot...

If I understand correctly .... you will be the benficiary, and Shari will be the petitioner ....??? And she is leaving the US to work for 6 months?

If this is the case, have Sheri submit the K-1 petition BEFORE she leaves the US!!!

Also, keep in mind that before the visa is approved she has to prove that she can support the two of you, financially (usually based on annual tax returns, bank statements, employer/wage verification, etc). So, I'm not sure how her finances or wages will be accounted for if she is outside of the US for six months, but you might want to get the facts before she leaves.

Good luck, and congratulations!!!

6/29 - NEW I-129 mailed to CSC

7/21 - NOA1 issued

9/21 - finally ... my first touch!!

9/21 - NOA2 issued

hi from Oregon,

Congratulations on your engagement. Unfortunately, I can't make any sense of the rest of the post. :)

If you are the UKC, you do not complete the petition or pay for it. The USC does that. If you *are* the USC, you will need a US account in your near future anyway.

More info will net more info. :)

As others have mentioned, the USC is the one who petitions the USCIS on your behalf. But you both have a lot of work to do to get that packet ready. Once the petition has been approved, it will be sent to the NVC and then forwarded to the US Embassy in London (?). The Embassy will send you a packet, she will need to complete an I-134 Affadavit of Support for you to submit with your paperwork...

If she's there with you for 6 months, she will need a way to monitor her US snail mail, in case an RFE is sent to her as a result of her I-129F. The I-134 might be an issue because the supporting financial docs need to be current... not 6+ months old...

The good news is that you'll be together for an extended period of time to validate your relationship. You'll just have to be organized and careful about paperwork to minimize delays.

Best wishes, and congrats on your engagement!

10-16-06 Flt to US, POE Detroit

11-5-06 Married

7-2-07 Green card received

9-12-08 Filed for divorce

12-5-08 Court hearing - divorce final

A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.
