Filing for EI

I have read over the EI thread, but I had a quick question.

When do we apply for EI?

Today is my last day of work and I just received my ROE. Can I apply now even though I am not moving until next weekend? Or do I have to wait until I am actually in the US?

only a week no problem to wait usually the sooner the better but there is a grace period .. but i think if you do it now use the address you will be using in the usa

OH AND FOR LESS HASSLES ... keep your canadian bank account and have them direct deposit to that ... American banks do not like Canadian checks and will be a bit of a hassle to get them cashed

I thought I read somewhere that you have to wait until you are in the U.S. ? Because the out-of country EI filers go through a different department and it will have to be transferred to a different dept if you file while you are still in Canada.

I applied 2 days after I moved here.... As soon as I could get onto a computer! You can start the application online, then they will ask you to mail in your ROE and Visa/I-94.
