Hello to everyone, My name is Jim, my fiance is Ling,, we are new here. Last week after 16 months we finally got pur pink slip. Ling will be coming here in the next month. I live in northern CA, she now in Guangxi, China. We are wondering what is the first thing to do in this AOS process once she is here? Where do we go, who do we talk to? Of course we want the usual for her, green card, ss card, and whatever else. She is leaving behind a 22 year old son studying in Nanning and is concerned about returning to China if for some reason he would need her. You know these asian women are such wonderful, loving and caring mothers.. I have told her it may be some time before she can return but I really do not know.. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.. Point us in the right direction and we will figure it out.. It all begins with 1 step and that first step is so important.. Thanks and enjoy the day... Jim

Also, regardless of when you marry, have her apply for her SSN about 2 weeks after her arrival. She is eligible to get it based on the K-1 and it will make things easier to get it sooner rather than later. Then, after you marry file for AOS and include an application for employment (EAD) even if she doesn't intend to work as the EAD card makes great ID while you are waiting for the green card, plus file for I-131 - Advance Parole. Advance Parole is a travel document that will allow her to leave the US and return before she has her green card. The work authorization and Advance Parole take about 3 months to get, although if an emergency develops you can take steps to get it issued faster in certain circumstances (family illness, death, etc. back home). Good luck.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”
