WAKE UP CALL: TEXAS GOV. BACK RESOLUTION AFFIRMING SOVEREIGNTY

Tue Apr 14 2009 08:44:54 ET

AUSTIN – Gov. Rick Perry joined state Rep. Brandon Creighton and sponsors of House Concurrent Resolution (HCR) 50 in support of states’ rights under the 10th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“I believe that our federal government has become oppressive in its size, its intrusion into the lives of our citizens, and its interference with the affairs of our state,” Gov. Perry said. “That is why I am here today to express my unwavering support for efforts all across our country to reaffirm the states’ rights affirmed by the Tenth Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. I believe that returning to the letter and spirit of the U.S. Constitution and its essential 10th Amendment will free our state from undue regulations, and ultimately strengthen our Union.”

Perry continued: "Millions of Texans are tired of Washington, DC trying to come down here to tell us how to run Texas."

A number of recent federal proposals are not within the scope of the federal government’s constitutionally designated powers and impede the states’ right to govern themselves. HCR 50 affirms that Texas claims sovereignty under the 10th Amendment over all powers not otherwise granted to the federal government.

It also designates that all compulsory federal legislation that requires states to comply under threat of civil or criminal penalties, or that requires states to pass legislation or lose federal funding, be prohibited or repealed.

Sore losers or not, this issue isn't a small one. States rights is the reason our nation can't become a 'socialist' state overnight.

Sure, but they weren't moaning and biching about state rights when Bush passed NCLB or the Medicare prescriptions entitlement....

Of course a governor would have that attitude, that's his little kingdom and he is king of it. I hold an opposite view, feel I am entitled to that.

I am only one person that has to deal with city, township, county, state, and the federal governments. As far as I am concerned, they are all parasites taxing the ####### out of me and making even more laws where we already have way too many. Just as soon as they dump all these in between suckers, that is, blood suckers, and we become one country with one standard set of rules to live by.

The only time I felt I was in one country was when I was serving in our military.

You'd still have intermediary bureaucracies. It's not like other countries that aren't Federal in nature don't. The amount of 'work' it takes to run a society is simply too large to not split up and delegate.

But one set of rules? Sign me up. Good luck getting Vermont and Texas to agree on one set of rules, though

Maybe they'll agree, no sexting for Mexican teens.

So they are succeeding?

Nothing succeeds like success.

Secession, on the other hand.... not so successful. Historically speaking.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

IF all states had to agree to the same laws it would be a disaster in the long term.

How would we ever know what laws are working or good or not?

Take the public school system, different states, different counties do things differently and we can judge... what seems to work best. In fact the Private school is the biggest thorn in the side to public school why with their low cost and better results.

Years ago, many places began to privatize govt services such as trash pickup, soon most places (without strong unions) were getting on board with this cost saving idea.

All logic claimed that letting people have a special permit to carry concealed weapons would lead to more crime, the opposite seemed to happen and now, many more states now have a special license for those trained to "carry".

This is one reason why I am against an "Across the nation" healthcare plan run by the Govt, in ten years we will have nothing to compare it's success or failure too.

If we must go with socialized medicine, ...let it be be done by states or zones so there is both competition and something to compare success or failure too.

An even better way is to resist the elimination of private sector Insurance.

Govt. loves a monopoly for good reason.
