I would call that harsh but not inhumane.

It's my opinion, these people are wacked but I respect different cultures to form their own style of "justice".

As our rate of crime is unreal, I hardly see where we are in any position to export our methods.

The flogging is ok but the crime didn't deserve that particular punishment? Or, you think it's ok for women to be treated like that so long as they live in a different country?

You don't think it hurt? Or you think it was a sexual experience for either the men, or the woman or both?

"She came out of her house with another guy who was not her husband, so we must punish her."

With no other reason given, who that man was, nothing. Those people are crazy and who gives those fighters the right to judge and punish? Article further states they beat women if they don't like the way they dress. Wouldn't mind spending five minutes with that guy with the belt in an alley. If that was my daughter, I wouldn't be standing by silently and he would be in no position to ever strike another woman again, ever.

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

You would if they had guys pointing guns at you and the rest of your family.

One of the guys who pinned her down was a brother. It gave him religious kudos if I read that correctly.

Obviously it says a lot about the place of women in that society.

sister purple, it is not based on religion but more on cultural interpretation...

Well its hard to justify such a thing, as its so beyond the experience of what people receive via our judicial system.

By the same token though, its hard to separate the reality of the punishment from the context in which it takes place. I think people have come to expect this sort of thing from that part of the world.

In the light of the fact that some people would like to change how we punish people in the West, I wondered how actually seeing a real flogging would affect that view.
