Hello all,

I've been reading the forums for about a week now and all the information has been quite helpful so I figured I'd join.

My situation is this...I am an American citizen engaged to an Irish citizen. We met on the internet in September, he was my tour guide. I spent a couple of weeks with him during New Year's. I just got back from spending another two weeks with him and we've decided that we want to marry and spend our lives together.

After much consideration and weighing all the risks we've decided to go abou this the "right" way and pray to God it doesn't take as long as some of the horror stories I've read on here. I know what I'm supposed to provide but I'm worried that since our relationship is "fresh" that they'll try to knock us down. Does anyone have any advice for me?

Thanks you and I'm looking forward to you all being a part of my journey.

I have never heard of being "fresh" as a problem. My wife and I met in Sept. 07 quite by accident and I filed the petition in March 08, so the same amount of freshness and had no problems or questions. I would expect the same from Ireland. Just follow the instructions and give all the documents. My advice now is look through the entire process, all the way through to the AOS after he arrives, and discuss it all with him and locate any potential problems. Provided you have all the documents and there is no criminal history from either party you should have no problems, just a bit of a wait.

I was a little confused about the passport photo. I know it has to be two inches in size but that it has to be one inch below your chin to the top of your hair. Does that mean it should be a head shot? On my passport my shoulders are showing but it is an old passport. I was confused so I had him send me 2x2 from one inch below his chin to the top of his hair and no shoulders, will they accept them?

Thanks!

First, the Irish embassy was probably the easiest place I've heard about for interviews. As long as you've actually met and he can show copies of your passport photos to prove you've been to Ireland or he's been to the US you'll be fine. They didn't even glance at our evidence when my fiance went, all they cared about was if I (I'm the USC) made enough money. They asked him a few easy questions about America and how we met and that was it. And as far as your K-1 petition on the US side, as someone else above said, as long as you have sufficient evidence it doesn't matter how long (or not) you've known each other within reason, as long as you've met in the past 2 years.

About your passport photos, the best thing to do is have him go somewhere to get them done. It sounds like you're trying to do them yourselves, which isn't always the best idea. Mine had his done and it was only like 8eu. But anyway our photos showed the tops of our shoulders, yes. There should be a measurement guide in the passport guide that gives a basic outline of a body in a box with a whole bunch of measurements on it, try using that.
