A friend sent me this really intriguing chocolate cake recipe this morning. I haven't tried it yet so don't know for sure if it works but it sounds really cool so I thought I would share it with you guys and maybe one of you will have a chance to try it too:

5 MINUTE CHOCOLATE MUG CAKE

4 tablespoons flour

4 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons cocoa

1 egg

3 tablespoons milk

3 tablespoons oil (or try real butter...worked very well)

3 tablespoons chocolate chips (optional)

A small splash of vanilla extract

1 large coffee mug

Add dry ingredients to mug and mix well. Add the egg and mix thoroughly.

Pour in the milk and oil and mix well.

Add the chocolate chips (if using) and vanilla extract and mix again.

Put your mug in the microwave and cook for 3 minutes at 1000 watts (high).

The cake will rise over the top of the mug, but don't be alarmed!

Allow to cool a little, then tip out onto a plate.

EAT! (This can serve 2 if you want to.)

I made these for Christmas presents several years ago. I put the dry ingredients in a little baggie, tied with the directions and what you needed to add, with a bow of course, and a lovely mug. Unfortunately, I didn't try it myself first. :( It was good cake, however it should say, or I should have said, SPRAY THE MUG WITH COOKING SPRAY, or grease it first. It certainly didn't tip out onto a plate for me. I was able to tell a few people before they tried it, but not the others. It stuck to anyone's mug that didn't coat it first. No, I'd have to go back and see if I can find the recipe, however it LOOKS like the one I had. If someone wants to try it here first, let me know if it sticks.

...and who the heck would want to share it? I'm just kidding Kathryn, but thought that comment was cute.

The only ones who will actually divide it amongst 2 will be the ones who will divide one "Death By Chocolate" into 2 "Coma By Chocolate" (reduced-sized version of DBC)--into which group I definitely don't fall.

I posted this in the K3 section a while ago but will repost for the choco lovers out there!

Minute and half cake

First take about half a cup of cake mix and place in microwave safe cup (I use Duken Heines cake mix)

Add milk and mix until cake mix is consistency of normal cake mix when all the wet ingredients are mixed in (i.e a little runny).

Microwave uncovered for a minute or until the the top looks try, take out and enjoy.

Cake really does puff up! I make this all the time since I don't have anyone to share cake with :(

Kathryn, does the cocoa need to be sweet or unsweet?

I happened to make a cake yesterday using cocoa - so I would say based on those measurements (sugar/cocoa) that they mean unsweetened.

I didn't even know cocoa came in sweet.

Cool, mkq265 - I am going to have to try that one too!

Cherry - that would be cocoa powder which is unsweetened, not the chocolate mix powder that is sweetened.

Good catch about spraying the mug first, but yeah, I would probably eat it right out of the mug, too!

Soooo, I made this for Dad and I after dinner. I put some baking powder in to help it rise a little, no chocolate chips (didn't have any) with some ice cream on top. It was good but kind of bland. Good quick dessert though, thanks for posting!
