Hello folks,

How are you.Would anyone know about this.

I am going through adjusment of status process after marrying a US citizen and applied 485/765/131.

If we face divorce after i get my green card in my hand would it effect my citizenship later on .

If I get divorce, after how many years I can apply for citizenship,,, 3 or 5 years?

Thanks for all of your help.

have a nice day.

yes it does... the 3 year rule requires an ongoing marriage of 3+ to a USC... not one that was three years at some point before...

FWIW, I am glad you are planning for the future..

YMMV

To us it looks like, since you are thinking about getting a divorce that you just married to get a green card. Thats is called marriage fraud and is punishable by up to 10 years in federal prison! If you married this guy just tpo get your green card, then i suggest you halt all immigration proceedings and go back to your home county. Because USCIS WILL find out and they WILL realize you did it for a fast green card, and they WILL throw you in jail.

These are times when you wish USCIS, Homeland Security and NVC monitors our website. This is why this process is so detailed, expensive, exhausting and keeps us from our loved ones for so long. Oh sure buddy...wink, wink... just wondering? Get off this site. You are a disgrace.

Just an FYI peeps, the OP is a he.

Come now, he is just planning for all possible outcomes....

I mean, everyone that comes here using marriage visas are deeply in love with the USC, and would never, ever stay in the US if they get a divorce (or it's not everything they wanted).

People are really not like that - are they???

/sarcasm off

Yes - pretty sad to be thinking of this before the actual event. But since the OP only made one more post after this, and to insult someone in some incoherent manner, I am leaning toward either a TROLL or GREENCARD Marriage.

Special place in the USCIS for them I hope....

My Advice is usually based on "Worst Case Scenario" and what is written in the rules/laws/instructions. That is the way I roll... -Protect your Status - file before your I-94 expires.

WARNING: Phrases in this post may sound meaner than they were intended to be. Read the Adjudicator's Field Manual from USCIS
