New Bottleneck = NVC case assignment

It seems that after months of quick Case Number assignments the NVC is taking a new stance when you call and try to get your number...'Your number may be available in 3 to 12 weeks, try back again next week?'

Those of you that have received your number in less than 10 days...did you get this long prediction as well.

Off the top of my head I think the operator told me it would take 1-2. Everything at NVC takes 4-6 or 6-8 weeks or more according to them - it's the standard thing they say. If you follow the Wiki Guides you will be through in a month or less! If NVC is getting a rush of NOA2's being sent to them at the same time this could slow it down a bit but NVC is much nicer than being at the Service Centers because you can speak to the NVC operators/AVR along the way. You also have the shortcuts in the guides which will save you soooo much time instead of waiting for their responses in the mail!

I'm right with you EricN. I got approved on the 20th and nothing on the AVR yet. If i don't hear anything on the AVR tomorrow i'll be talking to an operator to see whats going on!!

Do not wait for the AVR to update, it tends to lag behind the actual status of the case. Speak to an operator to get an up to date status on your case.

I check the AVR every day. I did talk to an operator one time, she asked me when my approval came through I said Feb 18, and she was very curt and said sir it takes 2-4 weeks before it even arrives to us and can take 90 days to assign a case number. I replied I know that's what you say but yet I read online forums that all seem to get a case number within a week. She said FIRMLY Sir I am not showing any case number and you need to wait. I asked her if she had access to the same information as was available for the AVR and was I wasting my time calling multiple times a day. She said basically she had access to the only information available and it should be up to date and I need to just wait up to 90 days

Is there a website to look for your NVC #? You say, "Check the AVR" it makes me think you are going online, similar to the USCIS website where you have the ability to look for updates to your case.

AVR just refers to the "Automated Voice Response" sysytem at NVC. You can call NVC and either listen to an automated response or speak to an operator. There is no online service to check your case status at NVC. Good luck.

Hi to all, I called 2 days in a row and got 2 different answers. The first was 2-4 weeks, the second was sometime within 90 days. I called back 2 days later and got number on avr system. It was about 5 days after getting NOA2 hard copy. If you look at most timelines, it is within about 10 days fron your hard copy. Good luck to all!!

I recieved e-mail on Feb.19th, recieved hard copy on the 21st and got case number on the 25th. That was my situation, most seem to be close to that. I would not call for a few days or you will get the standard runaround, maybe begin calling next week. Good luck to all!!!

It usually takes 4-5 days to get to nvc, then 1-2 days to get into the nvc system and avr. Calling before this may get you the run around, just wait about a wk not even then call. Goodluck.

We received the NVC Case Number the very day it was received into their system (today 03/03/09). I only received the hard copy in my mail yesterday (03/02/09). I asked for the IIN but was shot down at the door! They said that would be mailed to the beneficiary!! Yikes, I hope I can get ahold of it before then! I leave for the PH in 6 weeks and I want to be done with NVC by then!!!!!!

You won't be able to get the IIN over the phone. It is the petitioner who will receive the IIN, since it is part of the AOS bill when it gets generated. It will probably take NVC 2-3 days to generate the AOS bill and DS-3032 now that you have a case number.

This is not a new bottleneck from NVC. In the past, for some people it used to take about a month to get case assigned, most of those times USCIS didn't forwarded documents to NVC in timely manner.

I'm still waiting for case number to be assigned today is 2 weeks later. I can wait it out but still I want things to progress Information is power!
