The love of my life is in the US, I'm a Canuck in Japan on renewable work visas.

He used to work here, but circumstances changed.

We are eager to tie the not.

What's the best way to go?!?! Is it possible to do third country DCF? Can we apply for K-1 when I'm not in Canada?

Did a lot of reading, but it seems our situation is a little unusual...

If he's the USC and in the US and you're not married, then he would petition for a K1 visa for you. If you are planning/ able to marry before filing, then you'd either go for a K3 or a CR1 visa.

It doesn't matter that you're a Canadian citizen in Japan, you'd be attending interview at the Japanese embassy.

DCF is only possible when the USC is currently resident abroad and has been for 6 months (usually).

Timeline Summary:

K-1/K-2 NOA1 - POE: 9 February - 9 July 2010

Married: 17 July 2010

AOS mailed - Interview : 22 November 2010 - 10 March 2011

ROC mailed - approved: 14 February - 18 June 2013

Citizenship mailed - ceremony: 9 February - 7 June 2017
