Just received EAD

we live in Florida and it has been hell trying to get her SSN # been told multiple stories at the SSN Office. The question is she just now received her EAD card wait for green card to be processed argh it is at the "we take forever" CSC ican she finally get a SSN number or do we have to wait till green card is in hand.

I think you will have to wait for your GC. Reason I'm saying this is that when I applied for my SSN, person at the next window was refused SSN as he only had NOA, he was told to wait for his GC. But wait for some more replies as I could be wrong. Good luck

I don't get it, what's EAD for without a SSN? Correct me if I'm wrong, can you work wihout SSN? If you've received an EAD wihout SSN..how can you use your EAD to work? I'm not really sure if you can apply for a job wihout SSN. I want to know more about this.

Thats a good point, now that I think about it :bonk: , maybe OP should apply for SSN with EAD and let us know how it goes..

YES, you can get SSN using EAD, you ARE WORK AUTHORIZED due to the EAD.

Give SSA about 2 weeks after EAD approval, then visit SSA and order an SSN, the card will have the "Valid with DHS auth" notation, DHS auth is the EAD.

Later when you get green-card, visit SSA again to get the notation removed.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

What documents would you need besides the EAD card. My wifes B1/B2 visa is expired last month. But she has a valid foreign Passport and EAD card would that be enough or does she need more documents?

Immigration Journey

09/15/08- Married my Wife.

10/07/08- Sent out I-130, I-485, GR-325A, I-864, I-765, I-693 Evidence of Marriage.

10/09/08- Package arrives in Chicago.

10/16/08- Money Orders Cashed. $930, $80, $355

10/20/08- NOA Received for I-130, I-485, I-765

10/27/08- (I-130) -- TOUCHED

10/28/08- Received Biometric Appointment for 11/07/08

11/07/08- Completed Biometrics. 30mins in and out.

11/07/08- Both I-485 and I-765 touched. Looks like it was touched/updated due to biometrics.

11/24/08- Requested I-765 Expedite.

11/28/08- Received Interview date for 01/28/09 @12:30pm/ garden city, ny.

12/08/08- I-765 updated on USCIS. Ordered production of your new card. Think expedite worked.

12/18/08- EAD CARD RECEIVED (expires 12/12/09)

12/30/08- Applied for SS with EAD, Birth Certificate, Marriage License, Passport no i-94 or valid visa was needed.

1/28/09- Conditional Green card approved. Passport stamp I-551.

11/8/10- (I-751) Removal of conditions received in Vermont. $545.00 Sent

11/17/10- Received I-751 Receipt dated 11/9/10.

12/29/10- Recieved NOA for biometrics on 1/18/2011 , 1PM. Woodside, NY location.

She can get a SS card with her EAD card. We got one with the EAD/passport.

In theory and legally you can begin working without an SSN, but it might be hard to find someone that will hire you without one and some don't want to pay you until you have one.

If the name she wants on the SSN card is the name that's on the EAD, that and her passport will probably be enough, but I always say to take your birth certificate too if you have one handy.

More update on our progress.

Went to Social Security today with:

1-EAD CARD

2-BIRTH CERTIFICATE

3-MARRIAGE LICENSE

4-PASSPORT

Passport had the original name so brought marriage license as proof of new name.

Took us about 1hr to get through security but once we got in took 10mins and it went smooth.

We didnt need i-94 or valid visa which was our major concern just the items listed above. So in 2 weeks

wife should have her SS# (valid only with EAD).
