I work for a child care program , non profit, takes care of school age kids at a local elementary school.

I have had ups and downs with this job, nearly quit once, but then Anton wanted to get his K-1 so I increased my time there from a part time sub, to full time again.

Now, I realize as long as we don't go to Welfare, the US government won't be monitering my job activity.

At least that's what I heard.

Work has become a place of slavery again. The supervisor is a micro management freak, and for the last 4 days has called me at 6:15 am to see if I am there, since her pet, my ex coworker quite two weeks ago to get married.

Then I am working on something with a parent, she walks in and says I'll take over now or grabs things I am working on out of my hands.

Today she said, you will need to stay later than normal so I said, Okay, then 15 minutes before my normal shift is over she calls and says you need to leave at noon. I said, can't I stay for 15 minutes to finish my shift out?

She says no, I need you to leave when I ask you too.

The biggie is this... I am the only employee who can drive a CDL licensed school van, so if I quit they are screwed on their field trips this summer, and I'd hate to let the kids down.

I love the kids.

The company also paid for my driver's license and paid me for all my training time and expenses and they have told me if I quit before summer is over I will need to pay about $500 back to the company.

I have one friend telling me go and give my two weeks because these are threats and they didn't have me sign anything.

Another friend said , just ride it out till fall, cause Iwalk away with a Commercial Driver's license, and eveyone's happy .

What would you do?

How many years have you worked for them? And how much loyal service have you given? There comes a time to say ENOUGH...

If they're treating you that badly I'd say 'so long, farewell' and go find another job. But it's up to you...

If its not contractual they can not hold you to the $500.

I would bypass your supervisor and have a word with whoever is running the place. The worst that could happen is that you leave, but that is not an issue.

Nobody is irreplacable, they can get another CDL Driver, might have to pay for it.

Sounds like you are in a good negotiating position. What have you to lose?

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

My 2 cents - if you're worried about the kids, and can stick it out for another couple of months then grit your teeth and do it..while sneakily looking into other job opportunites. If you get a new job then tell them you can't start til XX (after the trips are all done)

That way your conscience is clear on the children's summer trips, and you can stick it to the (wo)man after that :D

Thanks for the replies, I have slept on it, had nightmares about my coworkers, ect....

I have two options....

#1 I will look into a local nanny agency that sounds very flexible and pays well this week and really find out how flexible it is, because my husband just took a job 4 hours from Tucson in Flagstaff, where it's nice and cool and I want to spend time with him rather than slaving for this childcare company, yet I can't stop work cold.

So, if this nanny agency is as flexible as I have heard it is, I will put in my two weeks saying the reason is to join my husband in Flagstaff.

If the nanny agency is not flexible then I will lump out the summer.

Right at the moment the CDL is not part of my worrying. I did not sign a contract saying I would drive for them and they are so messed up with this issue anyway.

If I pay anything back it will be the $22.50 that they paid for my written test and driving test.

My other employer who is a very sweet lady and is a child pyschologist has already told me I am in the door to work for her at our school district as a teacher's aid for Austistic kids this fall. If I don't give my two weeks this summer I will be giving it after the summer is over.
