My son and I attended our local passport office this afternoon. Other than another couple who had already been taken care of, my son and I were the only other ones there. That's how I like it!

The woman taking care of us took my son's permanent residency card and his long birth certificate to submit with his application. She also looked at his driver's licence.

For my application she took my Citizen Certificate, custody paper for my son (just in case there were any questions) and my marriage licence (showing my maiden name). Don't know why she didn't ask for my long birth certificate. Because I had been married once before she asked me to note the date of marriage to my ex and our divorce date on the application form. She also looked at my driver's licence.

The woman asked when we were planning to travel and I said on December 17th. I asked her if she thought we would need expedite service and she said no, that passports were coming back two to three weeks later. But...one thing that might be iffy is my passport pics. They have some yellowish tinge showing partly on the white background. She couldn't say if that would cause a problem but if it did I would get a call to submit a couple of more photos and not to worry.

After all of that we had to swear that everything written down was true.

I was then asked if I wanted a passport card for each of us. It would be an additional $20 each and comes in handy as a backup for citizenship. My husband had discussed this beforehand and he thought it was a good idea. That would probably be handier to carry around rather than the passport book if we weren't on a trip.

Next step is voting. Oh and I still have to get to the SS office to update with them.
