Hi. I just had a question and thought this was the place to be. I am an American Citizen and have been talking to this great man in Thailand. He was born in the Phillipines. If things progress, would filing a k-1 visa be the best way to go. Also, do they include SSI money when adding the income requirements? Thanks.

She should be interviewed in the country where she is currently residing.

One of the requirements for filing for the K1 visa is having met in person in the last 2 years

You say that you have been talking over the net, the first thing that you have to do before you file is to meet eachother

Hi and welcome to VJ...I'm also fairly new but it's a great place to be!

To know which is best for you, you could go to the "Guides" section. It helps to make that decision.

Corrected.

Yes like others said, read through the guides and when the time in right you can decide what you want to do. However you must meet before you file. You have to have met within 2yrs before filing for a K-1.

K1 if you plan marry.

I believe SSI would be included on Income Requirements.

If you don't meet income requirements you can get a sponsor, another easy option.

K1 is the only visa category available to bring a foreign fiance to the US with plans to marry in the US.

As things progress, including the required in person meeting, you can decide first whether your life plan is best served by marriage abroad or in the US and the when of marriage. Then embark on the visa process that best fits the life plan on which you settle. The data you need to gather and other preparation is essentially the same either way.

Facts are cheap...knowing how to use them is precious...
