$455 for petition

$200-500 approx for medical costs

$131 visa fee

$1010 adjustment/AP/EAD

Plus mailing, copying, printing, communication costs, travelling....etc...etc....

you could save yourself a fortune by getting rid of your lawyer. ;)

Not everybody wants to do it themselves.

Not everyone should.

A consult with a competent immigration attorney is the very LEAST a person should have before they begin this journey.

Advising readers to NOT seek legal representation is careless advice.

Yeah Kim. How dare you offer advice. What's wrong with you?

She's perfectly capable of offering advice and quite good at it.

But there's a disclaimer on the face of this board advising readers to never use this community as a substitute for competent legal counsel.

It's. That. Simple.

PS - I'm not sure if it's that giant chip on your shoulder or your entitlement attitude that affects your ability to read. When you figure out whichever one it is, come back and try to pick a fight with me.

You say she is quite good at it, while in the same breath you call her careless. Make up your mind.

I said 'advising readers not to seek legal representation is careless advice'. Read the words just as I wrote them and try not to interpret something other than what was said.

does anyone have a rough estimate.. im here trying to save away.. i am just looking for ball park figures... we are both trying to save.. my partner says for me to try and save $5,000 (hes saving too but we are relying on my savings as i am in the UK). Im moving to Michigan but rough ideas from anyone would be appreciated.

i know to change status when you are there costs something like $1,500

$455 Visa Filing Fee

£35 UK Police Report

£180 UK Medical

$131 Actual Visa

£14 Courier for delivery of Passport

$1,010 AOS Fee after marriage in US

At a rate of 1.8 you're looking at a total of £1,115 or $2,000. This doesn't include any travel costs to London for the interview (train/plane & hotel), flights to the US, lawyers fees or cash for any periods of unemployment after arrival.

Think that's everything anyway!

But if they're filing under the K-1 the foreign fiance isn't required to get the vaccinations at the medical exam. They can wait till they're here in the US and get them done for much cheaper, as long as it's done before the AoS.

Not quite true - in the UK you can get your vaccinations done for free by your local NHS doctor and then take a printout to the Visa medical. If you choose to get them at the actual medical exam itself then you have to pay.

I think Michelle is referring to the ones you cant get in the UK, Varicella and HPV (if you are a female under 26 years of age) these are certainly cheaper in the USA dependent on what doctor you go to both are not available on NHS.
