Hm, let's see.. since I am from BICOL, I would suggest bicol express. I dont think your sweety has already tasted it.

If you aren't really familiar with the dish, it's like this.

You will need

-Coconut milk, (they dont have fresh ones, only in cans)

-of course meat should be pork or if you prefer pork fat

-pepper, cut it into pieces

-( i dont think they have equal stuff just like bagoong here) lol

-seasoning and salt

-onions and garlic cut 'em into pieces too.

Just let the coconut milk boil and put everything in there. and balance your desire taste.

My husband loves this dish cause it's soo hot. He said it has unique taste..

Hi guys,

Been here in US for 3 weeks already, and im quite adjusted with the environment, weather, time and sleeping pattern. i am really happy to be here with my sweety. anyway, i've been experimenting and trying to cook here to please my husband. im not really a good cook :huh2: , but he liked every Filipino dish I made  sweeeet! . it reminds him of Philippines.

i cooked adobo, menudo, pancit canton, tocino, and caldereta.

Any suggestion of other Filipino dishes? :help::pop:

I'll chime in as a USC based upon my experiences with my gorgeous asawa, who is also a fabulous cook!! I like rice, so I have no problems with the rice cooker going everyday. My favorites are:

lumpia shanghai (it's actually my recipe)

sinagang using big meaty country style pork ribs with the bone

shrimp paksiw - we stock up on frozen ready to eat shrimp when on sale - gotta be the 26-30 pcs per pound variety

bbq on sticks - chicken and pork in a fabulous marinade

adobo - either the Mama Sita's mix with boneless pork chops, or fried bone-in porkchops or chicken breast chunks (always with pineapple chunks), and the traditional adobo with chicken legs or wings

pancit - with chicken and shrimp

pinakbet - that's tonite's dinner - yum

escabeche - we use a big whole red snapper - fresh from the local Asian market

and philippine spaghetti with the small Purefoods hotdogs (my asawa piles on the UFC banana sauce on this - we've got several bottles in the pantry now)

I like very much the simple dishes also - Ligo sardines mixed with egg and bitter melon also with egg. We do quite a lot of the Lucky Me brand quick pancit canton, too. It's good and fast.

I'm not a big eggplant fan, nor can I do the bagoong...eewww!!!! Much too salty, although I can do fired dried fish. Lot's of work nibbling on what little meat there is.

I've also modified by grilled burger recipe to include a bit of patis, too. My asawa loves it!!

I am thoroughly enjoying her cooking!!!

A very happy bana...

oh wow! i wish i could make my husband eat pinakbet! :crying: i so miss it! but then the ingredients are really hard from where iam. :crying: as i read ur menu and some brand that i know! makes me miss the stuff i used to eat back home..i just bought ligo from a filipino store at palm springs but i was really looking for the dried fish :( they have it there but it looked kinda old and looks really salty..i can't go beyond too much saltiness because of my skin condition..i have psoriasis so i would end up scratching! :crying: nevertheless..im still gaining weight!!

thanks for sharing! gotta let my husband read ur story! ;)

I've asked a friend of mine the ingredients of his BBQ marinade, but he guards it like it's the Colonels Sanders receipe for KFC. I know ingredients can be added to personal taste, but what are the main ingredients of typical Filipino BBQ marinade?
