“He had these deep, ulcerating lesions with bloody crusts,” says Dr. Peter Arne Gerber, a dermatologist who treated the young man at Heinrich Heine University in Dusseldorf, Germany. Adding insult to injury, the poor young man’s sperm count had plummeted and his testicles were in a sad little shrunken state.

I think you can tell though - the guys who get really big (and more importantly with that level of definition) like that generally do use something to achieve that effect. Female bodybuilders certainly do - as that level of muscle growth requires testosterone injections (at the least).

When I was about a sophomore in college ('97 or so), I read a magazine article (I think in Maxim???) about a guy who abused steroids. He said his muscles got so huge that they were way too big for his tendons. He was a bouncer in a bar and was just walking up the stairs in the bar one night and the tendons in his knee snapped, and he fell down the stairs. I think he ended up being stuck in a bed and unable to move much for something like six months or a year. While he was bedridden, he got all kinds of bed sores, and I think even had maggots eating at him after a while. I just about puked while I was reading the story. I seriously doubt I would have ever even considered steroids in my life, but that article pretty much sealed the deal.

The scary thing is you don't even know what your kids are doing. One of my ex-boyfriends was in the Marines in Camp Pendleton and he used to tell me that each weekend a group of his friends used to drive to Tijuana to get that stuff and nobody knew about. Even Navy seals were doing it. How sick is that?
