Hi folks,

Have you gone fishin' lately? Well, right now might not be the proper time of the year to hit the lakes because of the hot midsummer sun. Here in Southern California, in an area called the Inland Empire, the air is hot and humid, the sun is too bright, and the heat index hovers around 97. This is fine with me though as I have learned to like this place, the place where I have lived for the last 11 years, after living in various American towns for 35 years, towns like Chula Vista, Calif., Tallahassee, Fla., Euless, Tex., and Union City, Calif. The Inland Empire is a haven for non-spectator sports, particularly golf and fishing.

I like golf a lot, especially when I made that hole-in-one a few days ago at Eagle Glen GC. Fishing is my second hobby, but I can't do it right now due to the elevated temperature. However, at this very moment, I reminisce those times when my worst days in fishing beat my best days working, even as I work at home in my peejays, taking advantage of a very wonderful arrangement called telecommuting. I also remember those lucky days, like when I hooked a 3 pound rainbow at Lake Jennings in El Cajon, Calif., or when I reeled in a giant speckled sea trout from the Gulf of Mexico just off the state park in Galveston, Tex. But my most memorable fishing adventure was, while at Shadow Cliffs Reservoir in Pleasanton, Calif., when a fish, apparentlly a lunker trout or a hungry channel cat, swam away with my pole taking away everything, hook, line and sinker. I must admit that I was clumsy that day when I left my line unattended in the water as I visited the outhouse.

My friends, do you have a fish story to share? Maybe when you hooked the biggest trophy in your life, or perhaps your first day in fishing when your momma and your daddy brought you to that little pond inside the county park? Or when you saw your daughter's happy freckled face as she reeled in a tiny redear perch, or when you thought that you have just hooked a giant rainbow but it turned out to be an ugly fat catfish that swallowed your corn flavored cheese bait? Well, anyway, please relate your fish tale to everyone in this forum. Mention what you caught, and how, where, and when. Happy fishing, good luck and don't let the big one get away!:rolleyes::rolleyes:

Hey Charles, are you from the Taft/Bakersfield area? They say Isabella is known for its fine stripers, or was that Pyramid Lake? Here's hoping that Jeneath be here soon so somebody can clean and cook the fish for you! By the way, where do you play and what's your handicap index?:thumbs::thumbs:

i live in Bakersfield ....Pryamid is known for the stripers, Isabella has catfish, crappie, rainbow trout. My golf handicap would be a guess, I play 3-4 times a month and an occasional scramble tournament. I play mostly county courses here in Kern county but my fave is Wasco Valley rose not because it is the best but because it is my home towns course.

I was born and raised in LA County - lived in Glendora and Claremont, but now I live in Tallahassee, FL. We used to fish out at Lake Elsinore and Lake Isabella. At Isabella, we always used to catch Blue Gill - they made for great eating.

Thanks for the memories!

Nice to hear from a fellow Californian/Floridian. I lived in Tallahasse, at Killearn, in '88 & '89 and had fished at Lake Talquin and Wacissa River a few times. The best I landed was a 2.5 pound largemouth at Talquin on a spinnerbait. It was nothing to brag about with friends at the Capitol complex.

We went fishing off of Cape Cod a couple of weekends ago. Looking for stripers, but not a single bite.

Hubby loves to go fishing...thank God because I hate golf!

Not a single bite? Wow! Just move over into golf so that the 25 lbs won't come back; imagine walking for at least 3 miles inside the course full of grass, pretty flowers, fresh air, sand, water, and all that stuff that nature gives us. Skiing, nope, you can do it only 3 months during the year and it will break your legs too. So, tell your hubby to get you a set of Callaways now!

During my sojourn as a graduate student at New Mexico State in Las Cruces, my friends and I would go to this picnic area at Caballo Lake just outside Truth or Consequences, N.M. We would bring a fishing tackle with us just in case somebody would desire to cast for fun. One late spring day in the high desert, a classmate, his name was Jimmy, while casting by the high chaparral, snagged a 1 pound something. We did not know what the species of the fish was, we were all tyros; maybe it was a bass, or maybe it was a crappie. Anyway, we were all gagas over the fish but Jimmy had to release the catch back into the water.

I mentioned Jimmy above, we became close friends, and after finishing our studies I came back to the Philippines and he went home to Santa Fe. We kept in touch over the years, became sweethearts, and Jimmy had his most prized catch ever in me, never to be released back again! :D:D:D
