hi there vj family! well, we got a good news. we got our aunt as another co-sponsor for us. thank God!

however, we are confused on what forms to fill up and what type of sponsor she is.

this is the situation. we are currently living in her house. so, we have the same address. i don't know if we need to fill up form i-864a because of that. but according to yu and dan, she is not part of my husband's household. we are part of her household. is she considered simply as a joint-sponsor?

advice please? we are gathering all of our docs for the reply for the rfe that we received last wednesday. hopefully, we can submit the reply by wednesday next week.

big thanks! God bless. God is so good, all the time!

Well I'm no expert. But I think as long as you live under the same roof it's considered a household. Hence you need the I-864A.

Thanks to your replies. But i'm so confused if our aunt is really a household member coz she is not my husband's dependent either my husband is not her dependent. Though we all live in the same house.

And how are we going to fill up the question on the form i-864a asking about the relationship of the petitioner to the household member? There is no option there of the "aunt or uncle" relationship. Only parent, son/daughter and brother/sister relationship?

That's why i'm thinking if she needs to fill up the i-864 as the joint sponsor though we have the same principal address.

Oh gosh! I'm so confused!

Please help me... Huhuhu..

According to the I-864a instructions, your Aunt cannot be considered a household member. So, she uses a second I-864.

Although your question was already answered I just wanted to tell you that I had that exact same dilemma. I antagonized over the wording of the i-864a for days then finally came to the conclusion that my aunt could not be considered a household member and had her fill out the i-864 as a joint sponsor. I'm not sure what would have happened if she had filled out the i-864a but we had no problems doing it the way we did.

Good luck

Hi FirmRich! That will be perfectly okay to have your mom-in-law as the co-sponsor. Your wife will fill up the form i-864 and add there the income of your mom-in-law. Then, your mom-in-law will fill up the form i-864a. Then, the following are the requirements to support the affidavit forms:

1. Most recent or past 3 years tax forms and w2s of your sponsors;

2. Their employment records or document showing their length of service, salary rate, position and hours worked per week;

3. To establish the relationship of your mom-in-law to your wife, include your wife's birth certificate on the attachments of the forms;

4. Lastly, mention and enumerate all these attachments to your cover letter.

Hope this helps. Good luck and God bless.
