the other day hubby and I were at Superior in the check out line.. and I see the cashier looking at me and then she asks, "Do you live in the area?" and I am like yes and then she asks, "Do you shop here often?" and I am like yes... she wasn't being mean or anything just curiuos and I wasn't offended or anything..

because you see mostly Mexicans shop at that store at least in that area.. I must have looked out of place

in some parts seeing a white person is like spotting elvis.

I used to feel uncomfortable being basically the only white person whenever I go to stores etc.. but I don't anymore...

Yeah, being a minority is easy to get used to as long as people treat you right.

It's not mistreatment, but having an accent and having the same questions asked to you over and over is tiresome.

Or maybe they just want any excuse to talk to me because I'm devilishly handsome.

I've actually seen the claim about "much anti-immigrant sentiment" (specifically, in Atlanta area) on the Grasmick Forum from a white Pigtowner. I replied "I didn't particularly notice the 'high degree' you claim--though undoubtedly it exists; and I--a desi--would notice it a lot more quickly than you, who can easily pass as American; so I'm assuming it's because of your own temperament" (basically meaning that the Pigtowner is a chopf#ck--which he proved by a much angrier riposte).

HAHA I have had similar exchanges with goras from other gora countries about 'racism' in America... like they really have a clue.

One of my favourite memories of shopping in Alabama was a cashier asking me to say her name in my language  I thought that was too cute.

Javi's had plenty of prejudice towards him. I chalk it up to the fact that we live in Podunk, USA and just try to ignore it. He's been ignored in gas stations, flipped the bird at several places, and just generally treated like a dumb@ss at other places. Most people assume he doesn't speak or understand english. There was on incident when we were coming out of Lowe's Home Improvement when this guy just started yelling at him and trying to start a fight. Well, I might be small but you don't start with me or anyone I care about. It didn't take me long to let that guy know right where he stood. Of course, this was as I was physically pushing Javi into the car so he wouldn't give the guy a beat down. You know, immigration wouldn't have looked to lightly on him beating the ####### outta some guy in a parking lot.

Just couldn't stay my @ss away!

If you experienced being mistreated and suspect it might have had to do with you being a foreigner, explain what happened. :)

I am the USC and my fiance hasn't come here yet.But having grown up in a culturally diverse neighborhood(Armenian,Cambodian,Laotian,Italian,Portuguese,Cape Verdian, etc.),I noticed over the years that people in this country have always been prejudiced against foreigners. This was going on way before illegal immigration was a big problem.I remember all the American people complaining about how a certain group was "taking over" so they all moved out of the neighborhood.

May 7,2007-USCIS received I-129f
July 24,2007-NOA1 was received
April 21,2008-K-1 visa denied.
June 3,2008-waiver filed at US Consalate in Panama
The interview went well, they told him it will take another 6 months for them to adjudicate the waiver
March 3,2009-US Consulate claims they have no record of our December visit, nor Manuel's interview
March 27,2009-Manuel returned to the consulate for another interrogation(because they forgot about December's interview),and they were really rude !
April 3,2009-US Counsalate asks for more court documents that no longer exist !
June 1,2009-Manuel and I go back to the US consalate AGAIN to give them a letter from the court in Colon along with documents I already gave them last year.I was surprised to see they had two thick files for his case !

June 15,2010-They called Manuel in to take his fingerprints again, still no decision on his case!
June 22,2010-WAIVER APPROVED at 5:00pm
July 19,2010-VISA IN MANUELITO'S HAND at 3:15pm!
July 25,2010-Manuelito arrives at 9:35pm at Logan Intn'l Airport,Boston,MA
August 5,2010-FINALLY MARRIED!!!!!!!!!!!!
August 23,2010-Filed for AOS at the International Institute of RI $1400!
December 23,2010-Work authorization received.
January 12,2011-RFE
