Back in the UK I watched a TV documentary about people with phobias. This one guy had this irrational fear of the dentist to such an extent that he would rather go out into the garden shed and rip out any 'problem teeth' with pliers.

Apparently on one occasion his broke the tooth trying to get it out and had to use a razor blade to cut through the gum and dig it out.

Can't get that service on the NHS, that's for sure ;)
