What exactly are the social dynamics that differenciate South Dakota from Montana that would make these two states vote exactly opposite?

Montana is slightly more affluent than SD in my experience. Of course, eastern Montana and SD are very similar - it's the mountainous western part where people tend to be better educated and a little more wealthy. Makes sense...mountains=higher property values.

However, I've said that without knowing what the actual results are. Last time I looked, SD had 19% in and they weren't showing anything for MT yet.

I said it in another thread: Based on what I heard tonight from both candidates, the party will come together and Obama will be unstoppable. McSame would have to pull off a miracle of some sort to claim the Presidency in November. Coincidentally, he is trailing Obama in the polls now.
