Greetings Friends,

I just want to come back and update you on the consular interview experience.

I am still pressed for time but I hope these brief bullets will help you out in one way or another.

What I did.

(1) Filled out all paper work according to the guides, also taking notes from the legendary psuhbrk, and a helpful guy ColumbianGringo.

(2) Some documents were in Portuguese some in english. If you need a detail list let me know and I will post back later.

(3) My tax transcripts arrived later than anticipated so I faxed them the night before the interview to the Hotel (this turned out to be critical).

What my wife did.

(1) Arrived at the Hotel Aeroporto Othon (the closest we could find to the consulate) 2 days prior to the interview. She actually hated the hotel accomodations and the treatment she received there so I would recommend to stay at another place for comfort.

(2) She arrived at the consulate about 30 min prior to her interview.

(3) Her cell phone, bag and jewelry were taken at the door and she got a magnetic swipe, standard proceudres to enter a govt building.

(4) Her documents were taken and all examined in front of her.

(5) Then she received a number and was put in a waiting room. This was a very cold place so bring a sweater of jacket.

(6) When her number was called she went to the second floor where they revieved all of her doucments again infront of here and had her sign the appropriate places.

(7) She was then asked justa few questions:

a. Where and how do you meet your spouse?

b. How much money does your husband make?

c. Deos he have kids? Tell me about his kids.

d. Why did you decide to get married?

e. What are your feeligns about your husband?

f. What are your feelings about his children?

(8) She was equiped with email notes, letters, and 1.5 years worth of phone bills detailing multiple calls each and every day. None of these were used.

(9) She had our wedding album also, it was not asked for but she offered to show it to the interviewing officer who was pleased with the fotos and the overall ceremony.

(10) An important note, for what ever resaon the consulate rejected the photos she had and required her to go back downstairs and take more.

(11) Note 2, The turbo tax returns I filled were rejected by the consulate, however the tax trasncipt was happily accepted. This is ironic because I ordered them 3 months in advance and they only showed up in the mail the night before our interview. And I expeditiously faxed them to here just in time.

(12) The interviewing officer disappeared for about 30 min and then returned telling her that she was approved and wished her good luck with a new life.

(13) My wife stated that she saw at least 100 people there most seemed to be approved but from the whailing tears and screams she estimated that about 25 were rejected, some for the second time.

(14) Some of the rejections she noted were because of Improper tax documents, failure to provide a passport showing US citizenhip of the sponsor, and otherwise incomplete packages.

Piror to the interview I did a search on "consular interview and Rio" This yeilded about five reports from the March April time frams that were similar to my wife's experience. If you can not find these reports let me know and I will post them here.

Hope this helps,

Best of luck.

-Happy
