You have been here, what?, 14 months? No, that's not a good thing at all. I think you may need to see a professional about this.

Life's just a crazy ride on a run away train

You can't go back for what you've missed

So make it count, hold on tight find a way to make it right

You only get one trip

So make it good, make it last 'cause it all flies by so fast

You only get one trip

I'm so sorry to hear you are homesick, I know exactly how you feel.

My homesickness has lasted over 2 years. I'm moving back home in 30 days, we planned for this about a year ago when we both realized I couldn't live in England away from my family. Have you discussed with your partner how you feel? Are you planning to move back home eventually? Some things I wish I would have done that I think would have made my time easier here....

1. Getting out on my own and making new friends.

2. Letting go of the past and starting to live in the present.

3. Getting a job, even if it's only part-time.

4. Join a gym and exercise daily!

5. Visit museums, libraries, parks and even go see a movie by yourself!

Happiness is a state of mind, focus on what you can do to make yourself happy. Remind yourself daily of the wonderful things you have in your life. Speak with your partner about how unhappy you are and find a solution together. Even if its a plan well into the future, it will give you something to look forward to.

I hope you feel better soon, I know it's rough but try to get yourself out there and make a new life for yourself. :)

Feb 05 - met on match.com, spoke daily over Skype

Mar 05 - boy flew out to San Francisco to meet me, it was love at first site!

May 05 - I flew to Bristol, first time ever in England!

Sept 05 - boy flew back to SF, we got married!

Nov 05 - boy flew to SF for 2 week visit

Feb 06 - I moved with my dog to Bristol

****************

4 visits home for 2 weeks at a time during these 2 years

(very homesick and not happy living in England)

****************

April 2nd - I-130 & G325a sent! DCF process begins!

April 4th - Credit card charged!

April 5th - Email confirming file date of 4/4/08

June 21st - RFE for affidavits...bummer.

July 8th - sent affidavits back to Embassy

June 16th - Received NOA2!! Yay!

Hey Kat

I'm so sorry to hear that your struggling. I haven't moved yet and I am super worried about it. I've never moved out of my parents house and all of a sudden I'm going to the other side of the world...#######? As Alan spent a lot of time away from his family when he was in the army & Iraq he was taught some adjustment techniques and is starting to prepare me for the process. You've been in the US a while now and whilst I would expect you to have "your moments" it sounds like its a lot more than that. Have you been home yet? Maybe your long over due a trip back over here. It will only take half a day in London to make you wish you were back in the US.

Are you working? Maybe you could join some volunteering groups to meet some more people. Your new life is never going to be the same as your old one, you will need to try and let go of comparing them. Just because they can't be the same doesn't mean that the new one can't be just as good. Maybe try spending a bit more time chatting to people from home or spending time with people on the UK forum. You can get the feeling of home rather than it being a 100% clean break.I have managed to find several people from the UK in the surrounding area where I am moving and although they don't know it yet they are going to form a massive part of my support group. If there is anything specific you would like let me know, I'm not adverse to sending a care package if it would brighten your mood. . . I'm not certain I can get your friends and family in a box but maybe some kitkats and walkers sensations! :)

Best Wishes

Bex xx

Sorry you are feeling so homesick. My husband has gone through the same thing.

One of the things that has helped was finding an Aussie Meet Up group out here. We get together a couple of times a month and he gets to commiserate with some of his countrymen and they in turn also help him with his adjustment out here.

It might be a good idea to see if you can track down a group in your area. We found ours via MeetUp.com.

Hope you feel better soon!

Thats the one thing I am worried about when it happens. Not mainly on missing home itself but missing the kids.

It's difficult and hard for some but I think i will be ok as I have worked in the USA, Canada and Germany in the past.

There will be hard days along with the good. Just got to keep telling myself I will be only a days trip away.

wow, how cruel.

If you recall the OP has had some struggles. I don't think feeling homesickness merits a professional visit. VJ Sheesh.

Kat - I think it gets less as time goes by but it's always there to a degree.

I didn't mean it in a mean way.....perhaps if it was spoken word you might get the inflection in my voice in that statement. No need to jump on me for it.

I just meant it's been a long time......perhaps it is time to talk to someone who could help her through it. It's not an unreasonable statement.

Kat - I seem to remember you were struggling a little bit with money and jobs and what not a few months back. Has that got better? I guess when things are less than ideal here in the US, it's perfectly normal to miss your old life back home.

I am not sure if I will ever get over homesickness, there are just some things I miss and will always miss -- my family, my favourite beach, snow, favourite stores, etc etc -- things that can't be replicated here -- there is a big difference between Nova Scotia and Oklahoma.

The key has been learning to live with it and not let it control me. It takes a while, and I still have bad days, but it's ok. Don't beat yourself up too much. :)

Best to go back home for 2-4 weeks. Then quickly you will find yourself homesick again, but this time - for your new home.

I understood. I took it to mean that you felt it was getting very serious and were expressing concern. Seeing someone, if possible, is not a bad idea. It could help work out why the feelings are still so strong.

I'm sorry you are so homesick. I do have some questions for you however. Are you homesick because of family and friends, lifestyle, or culture?

Have you been able to get work here yet? Could it be that you feel lost because you have not been able to find the kind of work you were doing back home?
