You should read about the Reformation. I am rereading a book I read in college called The Holy Household. It is a study of the impact the Reformation had on women´s lives in 16th century Augsburg. Anyway, there is a chapter in the book called The Reformation of Convents. One passage reads:

Rem perceived the women (nuns) as idle, and their lack of employment gave scope to the Devil. In an equation of lack of evangelical fervour with sexual licentiousness, he claimed that the sisters refused to read the Bible, though `the reading of the Holy Scriptures dampens the lusts of the flesh`. He went on to argue that the women`s second enemy was the rare gift of chastity, she must `burn with desire`. The convent was perceived as a kind of sexual hothouse, where all the women`s religious exercises must become tainted with sexuality.

So if you are curious where your grandmother got such ideas, thank the Reformation.

Just another facet of sexuality. There is nothing any more wrong with being asexual than there is being hetrosexual or homosexual or any of the other variation of sexuality. However, anyone who deviates from the percieved 'norm' is going to get teased...or worse. Sad? Certainly it is sad that some people feel that it is more important to speculate on the sexual life of other people than to concentrate on keeping their own house in order.

Simply copulating isn't necessarily good sex - Plenty of women get short changed in the orgasm department and being beautiful doesn't guarentee having a partner who gives a damn whether you have one or not. Quite the contrary at times.
