what's your hubby say about this incident?

a huge rant that is very racist and I doubt it would be a good idea to repeat it :P

That used to be bandwagon issue for the Daily Mail a few years ago - but from what I understand asylum isn't as much of an problem nowadays.

In any case, the problem at least from my understanding (and this was very apparent in my home town) is not of the sheer number of asylum seekers but the way they were distributed and concentrated in specific areas of the country - seaside towns and the like.

Because of immigration rules forbidding asylees to work while their cases were pending the government was obliged to pay them an allowance and work out deals for putting them into some sort of accommodation. Basically they would move them to hotels in seaside towns during their off-season, which naturally pissed off the locals because almost overnight the makeup of their towns changed almost overnight.

With those sorts of immigration rules its not clear what exactly should have been done outside of changing the immigration rules to bar asylees entry in the first place (which is difficult because you're essentially talking about people fleeing persecution) though that kind of thing is limited by European law... one of the biggest stumbling blocks over full EU integration in things like the single currency is the degree of control we'd essentially be able to exercise over our own society and economy. Its an ongoing debate.

I dunno - if I remember rightly there was a big scandal over there recently about illegal immigrants working high security clearance jobs. Govt got a lot of flak for that. This would surely only reignite that...

They're people too you know. Why are people there so sympathetic to criminals. I see a pattern here..

According to the Internal Revenue Service, the 400 richest American households earned a total of $US138 billion, up from $US105 billion a year earlier. That's an average of $US345 million each, on which they paid a tax rate of just 16.6 per cent.

I've always thought the UK system was really f*cked but now I know it is :)

The English courts have a soft spot for criminals. You have judges supporting a 23 year old having sex with a 10 year old because the girl apparently looked older etc

American courts sometimes go too far...I'm thinking the case of Genarlow Wilson, except in this case, the courts went too far (not too soft)

An English court (singular) as in - one court, one judge, one decision.

Courts (plural) - many courts, many judges.

I'd ask yourself that question after that whole "permanent residency for asylum seekers" kicks in earnest in Australia. Give it a couple of years - I imagine the nationalist backlash will be all too familiar.

Yes as in multiple courts. Aka the legal system there. It's not one court in particular that is soft..

No - but as usual you completely overreact and write off an entire country's legal system on the basis of one sensationalist case you read about in the news.

I could probably find a dime a dozen "soft" rulings in the Australian courts that have attracted criticism and condemnation by the Australin public. Would that mean the entire legal system there is a soft option?

In a word. No.

Australian men are fags.

Why you want to hook up?? Men holding hands seem to be popular in India..
