Fresno Police officer shoot the High Schooler

Was this Fresno police officer right to shoot the high schooler who hit him on the head with a baseball bat? The family thinks that the officer used poor judgment. On another link, the NAACP and other groups are wanting an independent investigation. Do you think the officer used good judgment?

I agree. As sad as it is, the officer used what he felt was an appropriate level of force for the situation. If someone comes at you with a baseball bat and they have no intention of stopping until you're "pulverized hamburger," but you have a firearm which will stop that person cold, what're you going to do?

Try to talk him out of it? Use your fists? Run and hide? I have a feeling most people would choose the latter (which probably wouldn't be a bad solution if unarmed), but the police officer did have a gun, so he used it to protect himself. Again, it's too bad someone lost his life, but he shouldn't have been trying to attack the officer in the first place.

almost sounds like suicide by cop ... or ... maybe he just decided to bring a baseball bat to a gunfight ...
