Hello

I hope that I am not offending anybody by asking t his but, I hope that somebody can offer some advice for my dear friend. Her father, who was Hindu, passed away recently and her and her sister are at a loss as to how to handle the funeral as they were not raised Hindu but Catholic. I said that I would ask here in the hopes that somebody would be able to help them with advice. She said to mention that he was of a higher caste (Verma is their last name) as that might affect how the ceremony if performed or handled. I think any information that can be provided would be appreciated. They are going to have him cremated at his ashes scattered at sea.

Thank you

Where are you located? I know there are a handful of funeral directors in the central NJ area that handle Hindu funerals [i think 1 or 2 that do them exclusively]. Another option would be to get in touch with a temple if there is one nearby. Given the circumstances, I'm sure someone would be more than willing to speak with them and help.

Thank you for your advice. My friend and her sister are located in southern California. They did go to a Temple in their area for assistance but were not entirely comfortable there. We did canvas the net yesterday for information and might have found a place that will hopefully be able to give some insight to them. I will certainly give your advice to my friend, perhaps there is a funeral director in their area that will be able to assist them.

Thank you again
