The new phrase I learned today. My best translation: The more I eat, the hungrier I am. Haha. Any of you have hungry fianceés (fiancés)? We have not seen each other for more than 9 months. I hope it will not be too much longer. 2 months, at the outside, I think. If we are lucky, much sooner.

Please write in with pithy Vietnamese phrases. I want to learn & teach more, if I can.

Thương cho lắm, cắn cho đau.

The phrase has several meanings. The more you love, the more you can hurt each other. Sometimes she hates you because she still loves you so very much.

Thương = Love

Lắm = Very

Cắn = Bite

Đau = Hurt

So, if I understand correctly, a word-for-word translation would be: Love give very [much], bite give hurt. Phải không? Hehe. Thanks!

I talked with my finacee Mai today, as every day, and I told her about the saying, Thương cho lắm, cắn cho đau. She had heard it a little differently, Thương nhau lắm, cắn nhau đau. Maybe that is a difference of the North and South. But I think it has the same meaning.
