If you get an approval from USCIS within 4 months after submitting I-130 petition for your cr-1, you should be able to finish up your process within a year, provided that you submitted everything promptly and correctly. Hope you feel better.

I-130 Timeline with USCIS:

It took 92 days for I-130 to get approved from the filing date

NVC Process of I-130:

It took 78 days to complete the NVC process

Assuming you're on CR1/IR1 route, it normaly takes about a year.

There's three "steps" into your CR1 Visa Journey. 1) USCIS 2) NVC 3) US Embassy

It takes normally about six months for your case to get processed at USCIS. I've seen some cases where it got approve in 2 months. Some in 7, Honestly, you never know when your case will get approved. And there's really nothing you can do about this. You just have to make sure your paperworks are complete and accurate, then wait out your application.

After your case gets approved at USCIS, it gets forwarded to NVC. This process takes usually between 3 to 9 months. At the NVC stage, the applicants have a lot of control on how fast they're case would get done. For example, if you use James shortcuts and mail your correspondence right away, it is possible that your case would get done at NVC in 3 months.

The third stage is the US embassy. It probably takes between a month or two to complete the whole process (medical, interview, etc.)

To make a long story short, I wont be surprise to hear of someone's case taking two years.

I am sorry to hear you are feeling sad and depressed. It is very very hard to keep your head up and your thoughts positive some days. We filed for a CR-1 visa. It has taken us almost a year but we will be finished next week. One thing that might help you get a good idea of the timeframe is to look at the timelimes that the members update. There is a NOA-1 to NOA-2 timeline to give you an idea of how long its taking the service centers to get the NOA-2's out. There is also a NVC timeline that shows how long its taking people to get through the NVC. Watching these timelines helped me a lot to get through all the waiting and waiting. This visa process is a very tough test on your relationship. It basically comes down to how strong your relationship is. Some of us are tested harder than others, but its not easy for any of us that is for sure. After going through this, none of us will ever take being together for granted. Just take it one day at a time and try to not let the negative thoughts affect you too much. (F)

The spouse visa process fell into a black hole in 2001, causing unusual delays for almost everybody. The timelines are far more reasonable now but thinking in terms of a year or so would be wise.
