Hello everyone,

I have a question about traveling.

I moved to the US in 2006 and have my green card for a while now.

My wife and me are going on a 3 week vacation in May/June to Europe.

Now, my passport expires in August, so you`d think I`d be fine.

However I did hear from my mum when she came here from Holland last year,

she was told that her passport needed to be valid for at least another 6 months.

I called the Dutch Embassy to ask about this situation, and they told me that since I

have a green card I should be fine as long as my passport is still valid at the moment of travel.

Does anybody know about this? Is this '6 month' rule only for tourists and does that not apply anymore

for green card holders? If someone has any experiences with this or some info, it would be highly appreciated.

Don`t want to end up coming back from vacation and get into problems at the airport. :crying::blush:

Thank YOU!

You will definitely need a passport valid for 6 months beyond your dates of travel if you plan on coming back to USA - the airlines will not let you board. I doubt if they will let you board on your way out of USA either. Check with your airlines. Good Luck

Adding: Even I need a passport valid for 6 months beyond my dates of travel to get into USA (or out) and I have a US passport.

Well if I was in your shoes I would just renew it, I dont think you will have a problem when coming back since it will be valid when they check it. But you will always need a passport to travel so why not just have it good and ready in case of anything. Enjoy your vacation!

Yeah, I think it would be a wise decision in this case to renew my passport!
