Okay so I need some help! I'm feeling dumb today and can't quite figure this out. When it asks for all of your places of residence since you were 16, they ask for the date like this "From/To mm-yyyy" So do you only put the first month and year and assume they know that you're still presently there? Or do you put mm-yyyy/mm-yyyy? Also, I lived at a boarding school for my last two years of high school, so does anyone know if this timeline needs to have no gaps like employment? For instance, would I have to put my home address for the two months of summer, then the school address for ten months, then home again? Do you know what I mean? This shouldn't be so confusing but it is for me right now!

Oh yes, and ALL educational institutions? Does this include preschool, elementary, junior high? Or just high school and college? Oh geez....there's just too much!

If you are still at the same place just put "To Date." If you can't remember you can add a note saying so. For example, these are all the places/times I can recall from memory or recall to the best of my ability or can be corroborated from external sources, this may not be an exhaustive list, nor is meant to be. As for the school vs. home debate, I don't think it matters. Your home is your legal residence but I don't think they're going to refuse you over it. I know my mom's DS-230 had the disclaimer and the dates as best as anyone could recall and it was OK.

for my husbands DS-230 I hand wrote it... and for the residence question I put "07/1973- present" since hes been in the same City-Province-Country since 73

because of my husbands age, hes 50, I (we) only listed his High School info.. because it asks for "degree or diploma" I would start with high school...

maybe someone else will answer about the education gaps.. if it were me I wouldnt think a gap would be a problem...I had friends that when they finished high school, took some time off to travel and then continued their education later...so in my opinion I dont think an "education gap" would cause a problem..

Thanks Kimmbo! I'm not so concerned about a gap in my education timeline. I was thinking about my going from boarding school and back home for the two years I was there and the gap in the "residence" timeline. I guess I'll write it out really thoroughly. I've lived too many places and gone to too many schools!

I was thinking that it looks like we should only list high school and any post secondary education. I guess I could put that I received my Kindergarten diploma! ~giggles~

I believe I put see attached for each question that it applied to (in Mom's case #20, #23 and #25) on the DS-230 itself then created a little table in Word with the question and printed the table on a separate page and attached it to the DS-230.

As for addresses/places I've lived....I only put the month and year. =)

Thanks everyone! I think I'll make an attachment for my employment and the places that I've lived. I've decided that I'm only going to put my education from high school up. It makes more sense to me that way!

I have some similar gaps/frequen moves in my address history. For instance, I went on a 10-month working holiday visa to Australia where I never officially lived anywhere - I just stayed in various youth hostels and with relatives. Can I just put something like 'travelling in Australia' for my address? I also travelled back and forth during my University days - school year in Montreal, then summers back at my parents house in Calgary. I always used my parent's address as my 'permanent residence' when filing taxes, etc...so I'm wondering if I should include the Montreal addresses at all...argh! This is so confusing! Why couldn't I just be one of those people who lived in the same house their entire life!!!

I think travelling in Australia is ok as a description, but if it were me I would refer to an attachment with some hostel addresses and a relatives address at least.

As for the University/summer at home thing, yes, you should include those addresses and dates.

wait now I'm confused. . . didn't it just ask for the city? It didn't actually ask for the address anywhere as far as I know. The person who was in Australia could just put the general city (or cities) they were in, they wouldn't have to mention hostiles or whatnot. . . am I wrong?

I just looked at it. It asks for the "places" you have lived and gives spaces to fill in only city or town, state or province, country, and dates. For the date, it just asks for month and year. It does not ask for full addresses. Not sure if that helps ATeam or Meridien.
