Hey there! First off, thanks for reading and responding, I really appreciate it! I was just wondering, for those of you who have gone through your visa journey as a K1, did you all have your vaccines done? Was it mandatory? As I read it on the USCIS website, as a K1 we are classified as non-immigrants and therefore not subject to the vaccination requirements. It also says that the consulate can't deny a visa because the vaccination requirements aren't met if you are going through on this type of visa. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for your help! I appreciate it!

K-1 is NON-Immigrant so vaccinations are not required to get the visa, however later when adjusting status in the USA from NON-Immigrant to Immigrant by filing I-485, you will need to provide vaccination record in order to get the green-card.

When filing for AOS you will need to get foreign vaccination record transfered to a supplement by a US Civil Surgeon.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Thanks for your reply. I understand this to be the case as well, but I've heard that if you're Canadian there is no option, you MUST get the vaccinations before a visa will be issued. I was just wondering if that has been anyone else's experience.

I think ( I wasnt a k1.......) many Canadians get them completed prior to the interview is that if you goto ur family doctor in Canada, the shots are free( or cheaper than in the USA)! If ya wait till you move to the USA, it costs ya!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I was a K1 and I was under the impression I needed to get my vaccinations done before going to my Medical. That's probably a little stricter then the rule actually is, but I know a number of people on here were getting everything up to date prior to going for the medical appointment. I think I had a tetanus booster.

Check out one of the Dr's sites and see where they link you for vaccination requirements from the US government. Dr Seiden in Toronto was a good one.

I've sent off an email to the Vancouver consulate, where I'll have my interview to see what the requirement is. I'm not against having vaccines done here in Canada. I know that they're free or very minimal and that is why people have them done before the visa medical. My issue is with this new vaccine Gardasil. I will not be getting it and I was trying to see if I don't have it done before my interview if it will affect getting the visa or not. If it will cause a problem I will simply push my medical back until after my 27th birthday in June, but I really would like to avert adding 6 months onto our visa journey unnecessarily if at all possible!

someone mentioned in another thread that you only need the first shot and you can get the rest of the shots when you are in the US...

Hi Guys,

I did my medical today and took that vaccine (Gardasil) and another new required vaccine Tpd similar to Td. Both are new that was required by the US embassy...We are only required to make one shot of each here and take the rest in the US. She explained that these vaccines are required and are expected to be found at the Medical results being submitted. Whatever reasons the embassy are having, we all have no idea but the doctor I talked today said it is a must just like MMR and Td and the rest of the vaccines.

I also just saw this though...

Alright,

I called Dr. Lorne S. Weiner's office in Ottawa and they said that Gardasil and TDP is not required. And that is big news to them. They mentioned calling the consulate to see what they say. I called the consulate but they do not have a live operator to speak with. They said to email any questions. But I'm heading to work righttttt now. So, maybe someone wants to email them and find out?

It might be a province thing and certain provinces require it?

Nooo clue!

Thanks Marilyn! I've been reading the other threads. I don't want the shot at all! :P Not one or three of them. I had someone ask at the doctor's office here in Alberta if I needed that vaccine and the answer came back yes. It must be different for every province right now. Who knows?!

I have to catch up on a few vaccinations (chicken pox and tetanus) and I emailed the Woking Medical clinic (the only doc in BC that does K-1 medical exams) and they told me that I had to have the vaccinations before I would be issued a visa. I was able to get the tetanus but since I have never had chicken pox as a child, I have to be tested for immunity first before they will give me the shot... unfortunately I found all this out a week before my interview... so I'm waiting to find out the results. Thankfully though, they told me that "you must at least have one done before your interview". Which means, I can get the first chicken pox shot and the other I can get down in the States.

So if I'm understanding correctly. You have to get your vaccines before they'll give you a visa. I recommend emailing them to make sure though.

The Woking Clinic - Dr. Morgan (panel physician) email is: wokingmedical@telus.net

And the Vancouver Consulate email is: Vancouverk@state.gov

Well, London, Ontario, says that it's necessary, and considering it's been confirmed with other panel physicians, I'm guessing Ottawa is out of the loop. Again, please, please email the consulate and find out for sure.

Well, as soon as I get a number at Vancouver I'll be emailing them. If you read the instructions on the medical form it says that immigrant visa applicants must have the vaccines, but if you look at the checklist it says "for a K-1 Non-Immigrant Visa"!!!! That's what I find frustrating. I'll keep you all updated though! BTW, I don't have a problem with the other vaccines, just the Gardasil!

no vaccine can really prevent you from diseases. It is the healthy lifestyle that boost the immune system that will keep your body from all thesediseases. you get all the vaccines in the market but still you will die from heart diseases and cancer which is the major health problem in the US because of unhealthy lifestyle. So, for me, I should not get any of these vaccines but will focus on healthy lifestyle. they will not grant me a waiver during AOS? well, I am sure have no choice but I will go on a week of fasting to get rid of those foreign chemicals out from my system.

Wait... where are you reading that Gardasil is required? I thought the USCIS listed the vaccinnes needed once you do AOS and gardasil definitely wasn't on there. Although I'm not against vaccines it seems like an odd requirement.

According to this website: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.5af9bb95919f35e66f614176543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=3384cc5222ff5210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=6abe6d26d17df110VgnVCM1000004718190aRCRD

"Background

Under the immigration laws of the United States, a foreign national who applies for an immigrant visa abroad, or who seeks to adjust status to a permanent resident while in the United States, is required to receive vaccinations to prevent the following diseases:

* Mumps

* Measles

* Rubella

* Polio

* Tetanus and Diphtheria Toxoids

* Pertussis

* Haemophilus influenzae type B

* Hepatitis B

* Any other vaccine-preventable diseases recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices"

I went to my family doctor before doing the medical in Toronto and she gave me a MMR booster. All my other vaccines were up to date. I was not given a gardasil shot and my visa was issued.

I'm not saying you guys are wrong, I'm genuinely confused and looking for clarification.

^^ Don't worry, this thread was old and brought back to life (for no good reason) and Gardisil is no longer required. It was required for a short period of time a couple of years ago. I was one of the lucky ones that had to get it!!
