Let's remember that for a K-1 no vaccinations are required... you can wait until you are in the US and file for AOS.....

In Canada it is a requirement. No vaccines.... no visa.

It would be interesting to see this in print because it is contrary to the DOS official position.

YMMV

According to my physician's office, Gardasil is not available through public health units, you could get a prescription through a walk-in clinic I suppose, but the vaccine itself has to be purchased from a pharmacy.

It's not covered in Canada.

What infuriates me is how the requirements and cost for legal immigration are increasing constantly, as if those trying to do the right thing and immigrate lawfully are being penalized.

Then why does it say that on the website???

I think this is outrageous!!!

You won't get any argument from me. As we've all seen and experienced, every government area we've had to deal with have their own interpretations of policy and procedure. Just visit the regional forums.... every country has a different way of doing things. Even in the US when it comes to AOS, SSN's, the DMV. No rhyme or reason to it. No consistency. VERRRRYYY frustrating.

There has been some talk on the Canada board about the vaccine "Gardasil". It seems to now be a mandatory vaccine needed to immigrate.

Gardasil is a vaccine against certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV)

Wow! That seems crazy.

Are there current restrictions for people who already have HPV? I didn't think so, and if not, why can they immigrate and not women who do not have HPV but have not had the vaccine. That doesn't make any sense.

Wow I am in shock, now thats what I call sexist!!

I mean do they ever think of the men that stick their thing everywhere and cause the HPV to spred even more???

Well, I'm pretty angry at the moment.

There has been some talk on the Canada board about the vaccine "Gardasil". It seems to now be a mandatory vaccine needed to immigrate.

Gardasil is a vaccine against certain types of the human papillomavirus (HPV)

If you want to read more about it....click here.

It takes 6 months to get(yes you read that right, 3 shots over that period of time) and costs anywhere from $100 to $300 dollars PER SHOT.

Is this really true? There has been much controversy surrounding this vaccine and I'm shocked if this really is a required vaccine.

This will put a huge road block in front of anyone currently already in the immigrating process.

I'll be 27 on the 19th of May so hopefully I won't be getting my NOA2 until April and then I'll be able to push back my medical till after my birthday cause there is no way I'm getting this vaccine.

Does anyone else have any information on this?? I've looked online and found NOTHING. I just don't get it. If it is added to the list, why has no information been brought up as of yet? They just throw something like this into the mix with no talk about it whatsoever????

I'm angered and sad. :(

My understanding was that this was intended for younger girls. And it is optional. And this is a disease that is transmitted to females from males. So, you would actually be innoculated against your boyfriend/husband carrying the virus.

Alright,

I called Dr. Lorne S. Weiner's office in Ottawa and they said that Gardasil and TDP is not required. And that is big news to them. They mentioned calling the consulate to see what they say. I called the consulate but they do not have a live operator to speak with. They said to email any questions. But I'm heading to work righttttt now. So, maybe someone wants to email them and find out?

It might be a province thing and certain provinces require it?

Nooo clue!

It would be interesting to see this in print because it is contrary to the DOS official position.

London has always been 'contrary to the DOS official position'. I've never known them to approve a K1 without proof of vaccinations (or having them done at the medical).

Regardless, I've never known what waiting till AOS saves you anyway. Esp. in countries like the UK where the beneficiary can have them done for free at their GP.

If that is the case it is even contrary to there own website...

Note: Fiance(e), ), Kii and V visa applicants will not be required to meet the vaccination requirements at the time of the visa interview. They will however be required to meet the requirements at the time they apply for an adjustment of status with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Same in Italy, at least in 2004 when I got my K1 visa...Too bad it's not covered in Canada, Italy started last year to administrate Gardasil for free to all girls 11-26 who decide to do it, but I think it's the first and only country/or at least one of the very few ones which does it for free. I think the age range probably refers to the fact the vaccine has proven not to be effective if administrated earlier/later then that specific age range (not positively sure about this though).

Hope all get sorted out for you guys if you don't want to get it.

Good luck with everything! (F)

Does that means that pass 27 years of age you are not require to get it??? loll

Anyway it is true that you dont need any of them for your interview or entry in US once you have your visa. However you gonna need them to change your status once you are married.

I dont know which province of Canada you are from but theres always some vaccinations clinics where you get them for low cost if not free.

Any vaccins you have recieved while you were a baby or recently wont b necessary to get them again.

Also make sure to have a copy on which they indicate the dates you recieved the vaccins and bring it with you in US as a proof that you really got them..( some of them you get only once in a lifetime)

keep smiling...everything is going to be fine :D

Thanks for that Lady..it's just scary!!!

The Gardasil vaccine is for women ages 11 to 26. Why that age, I have no idea.

I'm up to date on all my vaccines except Tetanus (Which I'm getting on the 30th)

I'm in Ontario.

If it's true you don't need them for the interview or entry to the US why are they giving them at the medicals? I hope I have the option cause as I've said 100 times..I'm not getting Gardasil!!!

Thanks again. (F)

Hi Laura,

The reason why only girls ages 11-26 are requested to have the vaccine is that they have a positive result to these ranges and have not evaluated on the safety of the girls 27 and up.

I think if you dont want to get the Gardasil then you will not be force to do so..I think they will respect your opinion to that. DOnt worry dear.

  • 1 month later...

Mary had her medical exam today. They told her she had to have the Gardasil. The first shot was $160. She'll get her second shot in a few months. The third shot is due in 6 months tho.

I think we'll have our interview in June or July ......

Have we figured out if all 3 shots are required before the interview?

Oh, and she is going to be 26 in 2 months... they said she needed it. She'd have to be 27 for them to let her pass without it.
