Cleaned up the table slightly, and added a section at the end to show if you're a paper or online filer. Not all online filers receive an IOE receipt number, and not all paper filers receive an NBC receipt number, so it's not possible to tell solely from that.

Also tagging several Dallas filers I've seen from other threads, including @ManoloMMAD, @syrialord (recently completed), @Sammy Boy (also recently completed), @user19000, @imadol, @Sahara24, @austex, @N400Dallas, @tekogremista, @Suvaan11 so they can choose to participate here as well if they so wish.

Just wondering if any Dallas filer from last year or early 2018 got any case status updates for interview or anything. I have seen few Dallas folks who have had their process completed in 5 months recently. I don't see any activity or updates from Dallas folks on VJ!

I wish n hope mine gets done in a similar time frame +2-3 months should even be fine.. I have an extended travel plan (3 months) out of the country within the next year!

Hmm, is ur application straight forward with no negative things.. is ur 3yr or 5 yr rule based application?

My application is straight forward, no hiccups, no negative things happening and I filled on the 3 year rule. I just don't understand why it is so long, I am not the only one from Dallas that is this long.

My application is straight forward, no hiccups, no negative things happening and I filled on the 3 year rule. I just don't understand why it is so long, I am not the only one from Dallas that is this long.

Hmm, only difference that explains the delay could be that you filed paper app. Btw @Hypnos is also in the same boat as yours... but he said (I guess it is him because I have spoken to many people and might be confused)that there were some issues involved in his green card application earlier which he believes could be cause of the delay

If you read the field office journal,

after biometrics, USCIS waits for the go ahead from FBI.

once it gets it, it changes to In line for interview.

Since most of the data for here doesn;t say inline for interview yet, I suspect background check is taking its sweet time

As for your first question.

USCIS does not do background check. They wait for the approval from FBI/whatever other agency.

Hmm... if you see the list of Dallas people we have so far on VJ.. nobody is inline for interview since December 2017.

Where are you seeing that as I don't see it in the April 18 thread? There is one person that mailed their to the Dallas Service center but they did their interview in NY.

We live in another state adjacent to Texas. We have friends that live several states over and this interview scheduling process took over a year for them. We suspect their frequent travels out of the country had something to do with that. We have not traveled outside of the states in over 2 years. However, I do not have proof that was the case, just a suspicion.

Not everyone has their status change to "inline for interview". Sometimes you just immediately go to "your interview was scheduled".

It's very unlikely that the background check is the cause of the delay. Most are completed in a handful of weeks from the biometrics appointment.

The delay is simply Dallas' backlog.

USCIS field offices that are too backlogged should transfer some of their cases with applicant's permission to offices that have light load. Applicants won't mind shelling a few hundred bucks on travelling (Those who can) to get a quicker interview!

Well, in the current political climate, the USCIS is no longer an organization focused at customer service (customer being the immigrants) as they were before. They are more of an enforcement agency now. So to expect anything that works in the favor of immigrants would be too much of wishful thinking!

I was just checking Citizenship tracker on the other forum and saw that data for Dallas is pretty mixed. Some get it done pretty quickly while some take longer!

Like I mentioned previously, they will only put it in line for interview after they verified it mine has been in line for interview since august last year.

Also due to that arrest I hired a lawyer specifically, we provided the court citation in the application too!

Hmm, but you still can't do much as it is still within normal processing times of 15.5 to 18.5 month for dallas as of now!

I can understand, the wait can be frustrating as I am in the same boat where we are waiting!

I know that why i'm waiting patiently.

But I can however ask why the unfair bias? why cases with PD 2 months after me are getting approved, why cases that were filed online are quicker than those filed on paper.

This is what I raised as an issue with ombudsman.

I told her that USCIS claimed to process applications in the other they are received, but that anecdotal evidence from VJ and other places shows that is not always true. That a Dallas filer from April already got an interview for August, and a couple of guys from the middle of last year were done by November. I mentioned that the system was stacked against people from more urban areas, as those USCIS offices are more backlogged than those in rural areas.

I also mentioned about the new online filing system, that online applications seem to be processed quicker than the traditional postal filing system, and that USCIS does not acknowledge this publicly anywhere.

Figured that perhaps she would be interested in a follow-up on it. As I say, no reply yet, and for all I know I won't get one.

Congrats. What do you mean when you say "... have been told that it would take at least 24 months..." Who told them? I have seen some September 2018 filers who got their interview scheduled in Aug 2018 (11 months) and I have also seen 1 Dallas filer who filed in April 2018 and already has his interview scheduled. So your estimation that it might take 24 months for Dallas filers doesn't seem to be right!

sorry to burst your hoping bubble, I am not sure the ones you mention who got less than 15 months are normal processing applications.

the applications with marriage based gc/ business based/asylum/refugees have different process times.

You can hope you also get it earlier than 18 months.But you can see the attached picture shows the times and based on this people I know called USCIS in dallas, they applied in april 2018, they were told not to expect completion of process until 2020. some had called as they had to travel.

I am tracking from dec2016, I applied in may 2017. at this point, my friends who applied in dec got their process completed in May2018.

I have 8 couples I know who applied from dec 2016 in normal 5yrs GC mode, all of them took 15+ months with the later ones now expecting 20 months.

only difference I saw was the oath ceremony calls, some got their oath ceremony scheduled in 2 days after interview, some after 2 weeks.

good luck, maybe you get it in 6 months.

You can hope you also get it earlier than 18 months.But you can see the attached picture shows the times and based on this people I know called USCIS in dallas, they applied in april 2018, they were told not to expect completion of process until 2020. some had called as they had to travel.

I am tracking from dec2016, I applied in may 2017. at this point, my friends who applied in dec got their process completed in May2018.

I have 8 couples I know who applied from dec 2016 in normal 5yrs GC mode, all of them took 15+ months with the later ones now expecting 20 months.

only difference I saw was the oath ceremony calls, some got their oath ceremony scheduled in 2 days after interview, some after 2 weeks.

good luck, maybe you get it in 6 months.

I am not living in a bubble. I am very much aware that my application can take a long time... But there are some positive data available out there on which I base my hope and not simply! Plus there was this news recently that said USCIS received 70,000 less N400 in 1st 3 months of 2018 compared to same period in 2017. So that is also positive news for those applying in 2018! 2016 and 2017 was a bad time for applying as most people who were GC holders for 20-30 years panicked and started applying for citizenship!

The reason that Online filing is quicker than those who apply with the paper method is pretty simple. If you apply in paper, all of your information has to go through Data Entry just to get to the same point as someone who files online

If Dallas FO doesn't use FIFO, it won't fair to everybody. Paper filers will wait forever because most of recent filers file through web when they see online cases are moving so quickly. How about old paper filers' feeling who waited already passed one year? I agree with saladboye.

By the way, does anyone know how far Dallas FO go right now generally? Do they still stuck at the beginning of May 2017? Dallas FO is the slowest for sure. Houston almost finish May's cases.

Thanks for the info. But Sept 2017 and April 2018 don't reflect the regular timeline. Where's the general queue locate? It should be somewhere in May 2017.

2016 n 2017 n may be even 2018 are bad years to file N400. But as per recent data from USCIS, they received 70,000 less N400 apps in 1st 3 months of 2018 compared to same period of 2017 so that could be somewhat positive for 2018 filers...

Which is NOT done by the field offices. it is done by the NBC in St Louis Missouri (hence paper filers having cases filed by NBC)

The filed office just adjudicate the forms.

Also why would they proceed with next steps if they haven't entered all the data ? EG: doing bio metrics or worst, after BC clears, putting them in line for interview ?

Don't assume that it is a completely linear process. When a packet is received and opened a receipt number is generated for the payment. That triggers a biometrics request automatically. It doesn't mean that the data Entry portion is completed as it is likely handled somewhere else and the paper applications go into a pile somewhere to be processed into the system. The biometrics info is all tied to the receipt number so it can be completed without needing all of the background info entered. It just needs the Name Address and A-Number. And even that will take more time for a paper filer to get a generated receipt because someone has to enter that info and process the payment. See attached flow chart.

It does seem as if the Dallas field office is currently running at around 15 months to schedule the initial interview, with many anecdotal examples of faster processing for online filers.

If I get an interview this year, I'll be happy.

I guess you didn't understand my question.. I know about the other forum and I agree that its UI is not that user friendly! I just wanted to know what is the FO of that particular applicant coz I couldn't see it there!

If you live in Maryland, the field office will be the nearest to your location. Dallas will not be your FO! Field Office is where you have your interview! Lockbox is just the address where you send you application!

The trend has been generally forwards for the past month or two, so hopefully that will continue. As with all trends, there will occasionally be movements against it, but it's the overall progression that matters.

I've also updated the chart slightly by including a filing year onto the filing date. It made sense to do this since I was sometimes having trouble tracking people, and these templates are based on people all filing in the same month and year so a separate year has never been needed before. Also resorted by "Sent" date.

Hmm, with the news of 70,000 fewer apps in 1st 3 months of 2018 compared to same period in 2017, hope that wait times will reduce somewhat if not significantly!

That would be nice, but the backlog still exists. And those 70,000 are applications nationwide. Dallas (and Houston) is still one of the heaviest backlogged field offices in the country, regardless of the change in the overall number of applications filed.

Yep, all thanks to media, immigration resource/support groups which created mass panic/hysteria after the last elections which led to applications in large number by even those who were on greencards for decades!

Do we know if his application was online or paper?

From the way that the dates are moving forward recently for Dallas, I suspect they are making efforts behind the scenes to devote more resources in order to try and shorten the backlog.

I have no hard evidence for this other than reading empirical accounts from here and other places.

Me too....I don't think her field office is Dallas. Might have sent her application to the Dallas/Lewisville, Texas Lockbox and thought the field office is Dallas. Some people don't use the ZIP code to determine their field office and that ends up confusing people.

Don't think so that's the case. A Dallas October '17 filer (rrmaron) had his interview on 8/16. Cathy2Me filed in Sep '17 and interview is in Sep '18.

Hello!! Sorry for didn't pay attention in VJ lately.. to all that get confused about something and seems like wanted to know about the process of my N400. Well originally I submitted my Application in Chicago,IL(online) of Sept. 2017 in the middle of processing we have to move to another states which is Dallas, TX in Dec. 2017. I did change of Address, Unfortunately my account online was not fully updated they left my mailing address same as my old address and I didnt noticed it. In May I recieve a notification online saying that they scheduled my interview in Chicago,IL. So thats when i called USCIS to fix the problem and request to re-scheduled my interview to Dallas. By july my application was transferred to Dallas field office. I wasn't expecting any update. Also the estimate completion that shows on my account is not till Oct 2019. But I was surprised when I got another notification from USCIS in Aug saying they scheduled my interview for Sep 05.

We live in another state adjacent to Texas. We have friends that live several states over and this interview scheduling process took over a year for them. We suspect their frequent travels out of the country had something to do with that. We have not traveled outside of the states in over 2 years. However, I do not have proof that was the case, just a suspicion."

Yes and if you take look 17 posts below that one, ( On page 3 of this thread) they say that they do not live in Texas . If you read their expanded Immigration Timeline it even says that they did their N-400 interview in Oklahoma City

Hmm, then that's good for me I guess.. we are planning a trip outside US lasting 3 months soon... If it is taking about 10 months to a year for dallas... then that might work perfectly for me...I don't want to get an interview while I am away!

Plan accordingly. The officer who interviewed me told me they are catching up and processing times should start to go down soon in Dallas

 Currently, we have seen October 2017 and earlier cases being scheduled for interview. So expect an interview in about 8 to 10 months from now. 
 That estimation date of 27 months is not accurate!
