05/13/19 - Received physical copy of N400 interview letter in mail.

06/14/19 - N400 Interview Passed. Recommended for citizenship.

06/22/19 - N400 Approved

You could click on the Ask a Lawyer button, easily accessible at the top of the forum page, and inquire there? Most folks that come to this Do-It-Yourself (DIY) forum, with simple and straightforward immigration issues, do not retain the services of an attorney.

YMMV.

They will charge you money, then ask for the very information and documents that you still have to get on your own, fill in a few forms on your behalf using the information that you just gave them!

My partner and I looked over what was required for filing the I-129F, and thanks to the guides and checklists on here, we decided that an attorney could do little that we couldn't do ourselves.

As long as you don't have any complicated issues (criminal convictions, visa violations, amnesty requests etc.) an attorney isn't necessary.

Fill out the forms for a lot of money.

That is all that a lawyer can do for you.

If you have a complicted case with criminals records then you need a lawyer, but if you dont have criminal records and you can read , follow intructions and aske here then you will find

help you fill out forms with the information you provide. which you could of done. Put the evidence that you gather in a neat package,which you could of done.answer some question that you could find the answers to on here or by googling.Mail the petition in,using the postage that you most likey provided. The one thing your lawyer will not need is help in spending your money

Your abilities to read accurately, interpret literally, and answer completely and honestly are crucial to your success in a do-it-yourself immigration process. If you lack these, or if you lack the time or organizational skills, or (as stated above) if you have complicating issues, consider seeking the help of a reputable visa-assistance firm or a lawyer.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I think TB Bone has it right. It depends on your ability to do-it-yourself. If you are the type of person who would take on a long form tax return yourself, then you could probably handle a basic petition. One bit of advice that seems to be recurring here is: if it is a vanilla case, then there is no need for a lawyer. I agree with this generally, but it isn't always easy to tell what cases are vanilla. If it were me, I would probably pay a lawyer for a consultation to determine if there were any issues. Then I would make up my mind whether his fees were justified, to me, or whether it was worth it to do it myself.

My husband and I have a more complex case than most "normal couples" but we have still chosen to file the petition without the help of an attorney. We are up for a decision on our petition any time now so I'll let you know how it went without an attorney.

Basically, we thought why throw away our money?! When you first file the petition, the lawyer won't do anything you can't do yourself. It's first if USCIS complicates your petition that you need a lawyer so I say, file the petition yourself and take it from there. Good luck!

lol I have an atty.. honestly speaking, i still did all the work and frankly, now that the I-129F is approved, i even feel that the atty may slow me down!

you pretty much do everything .. the reason i got an atty was so i have someone to talk face to face with "just in case"

but still, that's $2,800 I could've saved :( in hindsight..

January 21, 2020 = My wife is finally a US CITIZEN!! Thank you Jesus! Our long journey is finally over!!

December 18, 2019 = Naturalization Oath Letter Received! THANK YOU JESUS!! The journey is long, but in the end.. it's all worth it

December 17, 2019 = Naturalization Oath Scheduled! i751 Removal of Conditions on Green Card Approved!

December 16, 2019 = "do over" for n400 interview.. was sent to the Adjudicator room.. after a very long wait since it was crowded.. PASSED!

October 8, 2019 = n400 Interview, did not pass. did not fail. what?! yup. was scheduled for a "do over"

May 21, 2019 = Green Card ROC Application transferred to local office for interview

February 21, 2019 = N400 Biometrics Appointment

March 14, 2015 = Visa MRV Fee Paid (1,0007 sar)

March 05, 2015 = K-1 Required Documents (Affidavit of Support, etc) received by fiancee in Riyadh!!! (that quick?! WOW!)

March 02, 2015 = Mailed K-1 Required Documents (Affidavit of Support, etc) to Riyadh via FedEx

February 20, 2015 = NVC Approval Letter Received! (lol a week after Riyadh Embassy contacted us)

= Riyadh Embassy EMAILS the "Packet 3" notification :) game on! and yes, they reference your Case #

February 16, 2015 = Case # Received from RIYADH EMBASSY!! Yup! Didn't call NVC or hear anything but damn that FAST!

February 06, 2015 = NVC received I-129F package (called them, no case # yet)

January 30, 2015 = Hardcopy of NOA2 received

January 30, 2015 = USCIS Status Change! Application Mailed to Visa Center. (so it took a week for TSC to mail it to NVC)

January 23, 2015 = NOA 2 Case Approval by USCIS Website and Email!!!!!

December 24, 2014 = Hardcopy NOA1 received

December 22, 2014 = NOA 1 Receipt TSC (NO!! not the hellhole that is TSC) :(

December 18, 2014 = I-129F submitted
