Hello all.

ok so in the new form I-864 part 6 the instructions say: "Take your annual individual income from Item Number 5. and enter it on Item Number 6.c." However, Item Number 6.a. - 6.c is for "Person 1 meaning as I see it, the immiant. This is so confusing. My husband and me are total 2 we don't have any else to sponsor apart from me. If he fills the part 6a to 6c It says "relationship" what will he write ,about himself? This doesn't make any sense.

Can someone who filled the new form help me ?

Hmm, don't know. From the instructions it seems like person 1 would be yourself and then items 7-9 would be other people in your household who have income, and then you total them together on item 10.

But the form makes it seem like you only fill in other people in items 6-9, as you already wrote in your own income. Also, question 11-12 also show that 6-9 is for other people and not for yourself (as you have to choose either to have I-184A or that this person is the immigrant him/herself). Also, question 10 for total tells you to add question 5 and 6-9 together, so it would make no sense to count your own income twice.

I think the instructions are misleading. I would just leave them blank.

The instructions are incorrect. I believe they meant #10. You do not enter the amount from #5 into #6c. You enter the total amount from all persons on #10. Since it is only your income, #10 will be the same amount as #5. No one else is providing income, so you leave #6 - 9 blank. Leave #11 and 12 unchecked and do not list your husband there.

The instructions are incorrect. In fact, if you look at Part 6 question 10 on the form, it says to sum up the numbers from #5, #6c, #7c, #8c, and #9c, so if you put the number from #5 in #6c, then you would be counting it twice!

It was a bad copy-paste job from the instructions for the old form. On the old instructions it said "Take your annual individual income from line 23 and enter it on line 24a." However, on the old form, "My current annual household income" is indeed entered on both lines 23 and 24a. However, on the new form, there is just one place to put the sponsor's current annual income -- Part 6 question 5. You do not copy it to any other line. Questions 6-9 are about other people in the household whose income you are using (which corresponds to question 24b on the old form). If you are using the immigrant's income, then the immigrant goes in question 6.

Note that the instructions are also wrong when it says "To determine the filing requirements for your relatives included in Part 6, Item Number 7. - 10." It's actually Items 6-9 instead. #10 is the sum. So pretty much the entire thing is messed up, and it's as if they originally had one more line number, and removed it but forgot to update the instructions or something.
