Embassy Review : Got to the embassy by 6am for my 7am appointment. I waited outside till about 7.30am.when we were called in to the waiting section opposite the embassy. Presented the email for my appointment and was given a card with a number on it. Filled a small form (name, petitioner’s name, address, email, phone number). Sat down in the waiting area for about 30-40mins.

Finally went into the embassy (no phones allowed)! Was asked to go pay visa fees first (I paid N21,000 which is $131). Waited again for about 40mins for my number to be called. Was called in at about 9am. The waiting still continues but this time you can here others being interviewed (many were denied or put on AP).
My number was finally called after about 1hr of waiting.
A nice young gentleman, requested for the small form I filled earlier, my passport, DS-156 and DS-156k, marriage certificate and photocopy, birth certificate and photocopy, police certificate, medical report, passport photo, affidavit of support from my husband, his pay slips (had pay slips for 3 months), letter from his employer (he’s in the US Navy), W-2 and tax returns. (No questions asked. He was impressed though that all my documents were well arranged and I seemed to know what he needed even before he asked (thanks to you all!). He asked me to sit and wait for my number to be called again. During this waiting period, I saw more denials and was almost getting a bit anxious.

At about 10.30am, my number was called by a young white gentleman, He seemed nice, but I was worried because he had just denied the lady before me.

He gave me back the original marriage and birth certificates first, and then I had to take an oath to tell the truth, then fingerprints, before the questions started;

1. Who is the petitioner?
2. What is his name
3. How did you meet
4. When did he propose
5. Why did he not propose before he traveled
6. Where did he do his NYSC
7. Where was he living before he traveled
8. Where is he living now
9. What is his job all about and what is his rank in the US Navy
10. Why did he join the US Navy
11. How many rooms are in his apartment in the US
12. If he has any room mates
13. What does he do daily after work (school, church depends)
14. What is he studying in school (he is also in school)
15. When last did he come to Nigeria
16. How long did he stay when he came
17. What was his first job when he first got to the US

He asked to see pictures and I showed him some pics we took in school and the wedding pics. He looked through them very quickly. Asked for any other proof of relationships (emails, chat logs or phone calls). I gave him the phone logs because I had highlighted my number on my husband’s SMS logs. I also printed out my own phone logs because I call him a lot as well. So he asked me how much it cost to call the US.
He was happy I had taken time to highlight the numbers and that I also call often. He asked what time of the day I usually call and the time difference between Nigeria and Dallas.

I could see that he was satisfied after seeing the phone logs. He said I should hold on a minute and he started typing on his computer. He went out and came back with a yellow paper and said those magic words I had waited for so long to hear “CONGRTAULATIONS, YOUR VISA HAS BEEN APPROVED’.

He said I had to pick it (at another address) next Tuesday 22 dec. I told him that I actually wanted to travel on the 22nd. He said no promises but I could call on Thursday to find out if it’s ready.

Thank God I was able to answer all the questions.

My sincere advice, make sure you know EVERYTHING possible about your SO, believe me you can be asked anything about him/her.

Good luck to y’all

Embassy Review : Got to IAH at about 3.30pm. Went through custom and border from there was directed to a waiting room for secondary inspection. Waited about 20mins. Then was called by a guy, asked me if i speak English. that was all. He gave me my stamped passport and said'welcome to america'. From there went to get my luggage, had to go through inspection there as well but that was also pretty quick, nothing serious.
Very good POE
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
