Event Description

Embassy Review : This is relayed by my fiancee who had her interview May 17,2010. She was also accompanied by her 7 yr old daugher (K-2). Everything previously described is accurate, including the long waits. They do however allow persons with children to go earlier as I was worried about the extended wait. As for the envelope issue, its likely that they don't want any appearance of graft or bribery, as money would being exchanged would be clearly evident without envelopes.

My fiancee did get asked numerous questions about how we met, my subsequent visits to Cuba, and any date set for the wedding. As her daughter was there, she was asked several questions. Like most seven year olds she was initially tentative but once my fiance urged her to speak freely, she spontaneously divulged information, like whether or not she had seen us kiss, where we had vacationed while in Cuba, and what kind of gifts I had brought this past christmas (electric keyboard, markers, books, candies). That spontaneous response helped bring take the edge off the "grilling" the my fiance was getting.

I had visited the embassy on an earlier trip to prospect how the interview might go. The official had indicated that people have often more than sufficient evidence of a relationship if it is valid, its often the financial paperwork that gets folks denied.

Also, don't know for sure, but the other references to "unhappy salidas" by other posters may not be pertinent to the K-1 visa process. As far as I understand only one K-1 Visa interview is granted per day. Other interviews are for other types of visa request (K-3, non-immigration Visa, and such) which may have different criteria for being adjudicated.

Bottom line: if your fiance sitting is there patiently waiting their turn and seeing others rejected, don't freak out just yet because those persons may be undergoing very different processes.

Also, initiate the Carta Blanca process before the interview, it cuts down on the wait time after you get your visa until you are reunited.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
