Consulate Review: Mumbai, India
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 5, 2009
Embassy Review : 630 arrived at consulate
700 let her inside
715 fingerprints, took interview letter window 3
Told her to go and sit down
730 called her again and returned originals, asked following questions: (Indian women officer)
- Have you been to America?
- Where does husband live
- What happened in first marriage?
- Where does his ex wife live?
- Reason for divorce
- Does he still have contact with ex wife?
- Does she live in same area
- Questions regarding her previous marriage:
- Reason for divorce
Go and sit
1115 window 16 American interviewer
Following questions were in English and Gujarati (the ones she didn't understand the interpreter helped out)
What did you study?
What do you do now?
Why don't you work?
What does husband do?
Where does he work?
How long has he worked there?
What did he study?
Why did he divorce?
Why did you divorce?
Have you been to America?
How many relatives in America?
How many people attended marriage?
Arrange or love marriage?
Who did the marriage?
Showed wedding pictures?
Who came from outside of India to attend wedding from her side?
Husband side who attended wedding?
Why did he divorce? - asked question again
Who lives in America on your side?
How many other petitions do you have open
- Her sister and mother both filed for her as well (3-4 years ago)
Checked computer - Called over manager type person and he asked my wife about other open petitions and explained it to the American officer
Does your Husband send you letters/greeting cards? NOT EMAILS, actual snail mail letters and cards. They just checked envelope but didn't read letters. I had sent her 8 cards after I found out about a similar case to ours and she got denied because her husband hadn't sent her snail mail letters. (She had emails but they didn't want that and told her to come back after 2 months)
Officer said Good luck
Wife asked when she can get passport back and what to do with x-ray
Passport will be mailed and sent to you in 3 days
X-ray take to US with you
1125 exited embassy

She went to VFS office at 445pm and picked up passport and brown envelope with visa expiring May 2010
Mumbai VFS only lets you pick up passport from 430pm to 500pm.

Overall a very good experience and they were very nice.
The asked her about my divorce 3 times and all three times in different ways to make sure answers were consistent.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
