Embassy Review : So....today was the interview date!!My dad was driving me to London for extra support for which i was very grateful for. I got to sleep last night at 12am and my alarm gleefully sounded 3 1/2 hrs later for me to get up
After arranging to meet my dad in a nearby cafe when i was finished I joined the line to get into the embassy. I didnt have any electronic items on me which i was glad about as people who had were being directed to nearby shops where they could store them which added to their stress levels im sure!
Anyways..i waited in line for around 30min before reaching the 1st checkpoint where i had to give a guy my passport and interview letter. Then waited a further 20min where i was summond to the next check point and had to do the same to another guy. Then I joined another line and waited to be called into the 1st part of the embassy where your bags went through a scanner (exactly like at airports) Noteeople were having to go to storage shops to put even their electronic car keys so dont even take these with you!
After i got through this security checkpoint i then proceeded round the pathway outside the embassy (dont worry its signposted) and entered the building where i gave my interview letter AGAIN and was given a number of 5014.
As you enter the room theer are chairs arranged in rows and screens with a computer generated voice telling you which number to go where (kind of like at a post office 'go to window number 4 please)
Anyways it wasnt long before i was called to window 14. I was met by a british guy who asked for my finger and thumb scans from both hands and then asked to see my passport and pictures. He then asked for birth certificate (and copy) police (and copy) and then affidavits. I had a cosponser so he took andrews 1st. I had andrews enrollment letter from his uni which the officer gave back to me. I then gave in all the paperwork for my cosponser (andrews mum) He took a few things from there (he knew exactly what he was looking for )and then gave a bunch of stuff back to me as he obviously didnt need it (rather too much evidence then too little eh?! )he asked what day i planned to fly and wrote this on a list of things he was also filing out as he went and asked me date for wedding. I had actually got a letter from the vicar stating that he planned to marry me and andrew on jan 10th which i showed him but he didnt take it. he then said right ill just get your file. It was funny to see it again as i hadnt seen it in sooooo long hahah!Well there was a red stamp saying approval on it but im pretty certain this was stamped by the CSC and had nothing to do with the process which was taking place now. He was relying a lot on the computer in front of him.Who knows what info government computers have on us nowadays...probs more then we realise! Anyways, he seemed pretty plaesed that i had everything in order and i wasnt rumagaing around looking for stuff. In fact I coincidently had it in pretty much the same order that he asked for it. After paying $131 at the nextdoor window which i had in dollars i went back to him with a reciept and he said ok that seems fine go and wait for your number to be called...then something came up the computer and he told me to wait there.. he read it for bit and then said 'did you go to the usa on j1 visa in 2006 ?' i said yes and he said somthing about june 15th and being on parole??!!! I was confused and then he mentioned about form DS2019. Basically when i went to do camp america in 2006 (where i met andrw) I realised on the day that i lost form ds2019 that i was spose to take with me to show at POE. I went anyway and POE officers told me that i just needed to get it replaced within 30 days, which i did. Apparently this was called parole!haha. Anyways, after realising what the officer was talking about i smiled in relief and said 'oh yea, i forgot all about that..i explained very quickly , he smiled back and said haha ok thats fine.
Crazy to think they had that on their database. I forgot all about it.
ANyways, i went and sat back down thinkin id be waiting 2hrs or so...WRONG!10min my number was called up. This was it..i was surprisingly calm (probs cuz i was so tired!) I was met by a friendly american lady. I had to scan my fingerprints again. She gave me back my original cerificates and then made me take an oath. I then had to sign 2 forms which i had sent with package 3 (my hand was a bit shaky which at the time i hoped she didnt see )
When she started talking to me it was so relaxed and i was quietly confident as i thought this wasnt the communication of someone who was just about to deny me a visa. Her co-worker even came up behind her to ask her something and she laughed after shed gone and said to me 'she made me jump..no where was i' haha
I thin she asked me 2 questions in total:where did you meet, whats the longest time you spent in usa. When i said in 2007 on my J1 visa she said no, without the j1 visa to which i replied Jan on VWP for 90days. She then how its funny that a lot of people who get married met at camp and then said what ive been waiting to hear for 6months..right im going to approve this. She told me what to do next in terms of the courier (id already filled out a blue slip of where i wanted my visa delivered)and also told me thjat when my visa comes within 2-5 working days it will also come with a parcel saying do not open do not open. She rolled her eyes and laughed as she said this She said 'so dont open it, this is for POE. They will see you coming a mile off with this package and will probs take you out of the line so you dont hold up everyone and look through all the paperwork but its nothing to worry about.' I then asked what i did about the huge envelope containing my Xray and she laughed, rolled her eyes again and then said 'ah well you put it in your suitcase that you check in, NOT your hand luggage and its there if they need it.'
After saying thank you sooo much, i left a very happy person, paid the courier £14.50 using my debit card (theer was even no line for this) and left with a huuuge smile on my face
Tiring but a very succesful day!!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
