Embassy Review : A pretty smooth experience, although the waiting times certainly do test your patience. Arrived outside embassy at 9.20am for 9.30am appointment (there were people there trying to get in for 11am interviews and they were being told to come back at 10).

By the time I got into the embassy it was 9.40am. The guy on the door asked me for some odd form with a photo on it, I told him I didn't have a clue what he was on about. Turns out that is needed for non-immigrant visas so I was OK.

I guess I was waiting about 40 minutes to be called up to the first window. Gave affidavit, birth certificate, police certificate and 2 x photos. Was given my X-Rays and told to pack them in my suitcase when I go to the US. Went to pay the $131, returned to the window and was told to take a seat.

Probably another 40 minutes later I was called around for the interview with the US consular official. Had to raise my hand and swear the oath etc. Straightforward questions:

1) How did we meet
2) When did we meet again after the initial meeting
3) How many times have I been to the US
4) How many times has my fiancée been to the UK
5) Have I met any of her family

I was then told all was in order, and to go pay the courier. Was probably waiting in line for SMS for about another 40 minutes or so, paid my £14.00 and was out of there.

Can't really fault the process asides from the long waiting periods.
Rating : Good

POE Review: JFK

Embassy Review : Pretty straightfoward process - I had more hassle at the Virgin desk in Heathrow when they saw I only had a one way ticket.

Arrived into JFK around 9.30pm, went to the visitors immigration counter and said I had a K-1 visa. Immigration officer was as surly as you expect them to be, opened up the brown envelope, went through it all and stamped my passport and white visa card. I was then directed down to a different area at the back of the baggage collection hall to see another officer.

I told this officer I had a K-1 visa, he took my paperword and told me to take a seat. About ten minutes later he called me over, asked when I was getting married. I said we don't have a date yet, but we hope to get married sometime in August.

He told me he had given me the Employment Authorisation Stamp (I didn't even ask), and then told me 'You're all set'. Amazingly simple - it has taken me longer to get through JFK on the Visa Waiver before.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
