Consulate Review: France
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 22, 2019
Embassy Review : Good experience overall. Very few people were there today so it was overall fast. Mainly us citizens and few other visa applicants.
My appointment was at 10:45, I went through security check at 10:15 and got in line to give my document to a lady behind a booth soon after.
I was told to then sit and wait for my name to be called, 30 min later I was called to booth 8, an asian officer ask me to raise my right hand and tell only the truth to which I did.
He asked me around 8 to 10 different questions:
- So you are getting married soon?
- How did you two meet and when ?
- Have you been to the US ?
- Did she meet your family?
- Did you meet her family?
- When was the last time you guys were physically together and when?
- Did you travel together ? And where?
- Do you have any pictures of you both?
- Which photo is your favorite and why?
- Where was this photo taken?
And that was it ! He then went on to tell me : Congrats welcome to the united states, enjoy the wedding !
I left the embassy bt 11:45-12:10 PM
Rating : Good

Hi there I’m french too :) we’ve got the same date as you from nvc and we still haven’t heard anything from US embassy in Paris ! Getting a bit worried !.. do You know if the mail is being sent to the petitioner or the beneficiary ?
Pleiades1618 on 2019-06-25 said:
I heard from another French beneficiary that she received her packet in the mail in France. I am worried too, I was thinking about contacting the US embassy to ask about our case... my fiance and I are trying to figure this out right now too... :( I think I will call and email this Thursday if it doesn't come in the next couple of days :) I will let you know what they say if I get a response!
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-06-25 said:
Please do if you get a response :) I’ve been talking to more people and because our status on CEAC was saying READY they said I should go ahead to book the interview and pay the fees. Someone told me he actually got an email from the embassy after he’d booked and paid. So I did too and sent a message to the embassy through their contact form. I m waiting now to hear from them !... For info first date available was October 2nd! ..:(
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-06-26 said:
Just to let you know my fiancé (petitioner) received the email from embassy today :)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-06-26 said:
Yay! I got my email today too! Phew! However I am a little sad that the only date open for an interview was in October... but it’s ok! I was wondering, do you know if it’s ok to apply for and travel with an ESTA while the K-1 is processing? Also, I guess we will have to write the letter thing that requests an extension since our petition expires around August...
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-06-26 said:
Yay at last ! :) same here we were quite upset about the date for interview !.. but at least let’s say we’re getting closer to the last stage :) Well from what I’ve read you can fly to the US with an ESTA it’s just might be more difficult at port of entry... probably more questions asked and so on... Yep same for us my fiancé will have to send me the letter for extension for when I go at the embassy.. We’re getting there but not quite Next medical exams ! At least we’ve got time to do it ;-)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-07-08 said:
Hey my boyfriend has been trying to book a medical exam on the internet for the end of august, but since his interview is on the 16th of October he cannot input any dates later than the 6th of September! I was wondering if you guys had the same issue? Maybe we should wait and try again? I hope you guys are doing great
Pleiades1618 on 2019-07-08 said:
(I forgot to mention that while booking, they ask for his interview dates to then book a medical exam date) So the medical date depends on the date of his interview which create some problems.
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-07-08 said:
Hi Rachel ! Yes I’ve seen that but for the other doctor Mr Slattery (tel number is 01 47 42 02 34) you have to book by phone which I did I chose mine for September 24th. I don’t know if end of August will be too early to book but at least he can talk to the secretary and ask :) Hope this helps ! Keep me posted :)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-08-15 said:
Hi there! Do you know how the "letter of extension process works? Do we just write a letter and bring it to the interview? Thanks!
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-08-15 said:
Hi there ! You (the petitioner) needs to write a new intent of marrying letter and add a request for a 4 months extension . Your fiance will need to bring that letter at the interview
Pleiades1618 on 2019-08-16 said:
Okay thanks :) that's reassuring, but should I still email the letter to the embassy just in case before the day of interview?
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-08-16 said:
I don’t think so in the mail we received from the embassy it just says that the petitioner needs to write a letter. Apparently it’s no big deal they do extension very often
Pleiades1618 on 2019-08-17 said:
Okay thank you Berthe ! Hopefully it's no big deal. My fiance just got a medical exam with slattery on the 4th of September so we are on track. I hope things goes well on your side, let us know :)
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-08-17 said:
Let me know if the doctor is nice ;-) I’ve got mine sept 24th.. Does your fiancé plan on getting the influenza vaccine before he moves to the US ? I’m thinking of doing that because it will be influenza season when we file for AOS and it’s probably easier to have it done here in France.. And I just hope our medical checks will still be valid for the AOS stage.. I’ve heard it’s only valid for 60 days ? Have you info about that ?
Pleiades1618 on 2019-08-17 said:
For now we are planning to do the influenza vaccine during our adjustication period in the US, unless the doctor recommends otherwise. But I think since the injections are available to get, starting from September/October, it would be convenient for you if you are in france! As for the medical check validity I've never heard of this either but we asking another french woman who has gone through this process a few months ago. We will let you know what she tells us!
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-08-17 said:
Yes please let me know :) It’s nice to be able to share info in this long journey !..
Pleiades1618 on 2019-08-19 said:
Hi there! The french woman I was telling you about sent me this message about the medical: "I was wondering the same for the medical when I did it, and I find out on this forum that the medical is good for one year! We just sent our AOS on August 8. I did my medical on April 29." Hopefully, that helps! Apparently, it's good for a while year, phew!
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-08-19 said:
Hopefully that will be the case ! Would be nice if she keeps you posted on how it goes on her AOS adjustment ! I’ve got a question regarding the police record and birth certificate As you may already know it’s only valid for 3 months in France so do you think we may have to order new ones for AOS package. Will you have these documents translated once in the US Any thoughts about this ?
Pleiades1618 on 2019-08-21 said:
That is a great question, I will ask my friend on Visa Journey!! I will get back to you soon!
Pleiades1618 on 2019-08-21 said:
https://www.visajourney.com/profile/282856-shrinee/ This is the member's profile who is going to the AOS now, maybe we can do a group message together with her she is super helpful!
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-08-22 said:
Yes definitely that would be nice :) and very helpful ;-)
blank avatar Lisa Pr on 2019-08-22 said:
Hi guys , I am also from France, just got our petition approved ! :) congrats on yours, you are getting very close !! I am a bit sad when I see how long it takes to get an interview date from everyone's timeline .. hopefully we can get a date by the end the year.. :/
Pleiades1618 on 2019-08-27 said:
Hi there! This is what she said "Yes you have to get a new birth certificate, you don't need police record for the AOS. Before your fiance leaves France he can order online his birth certificate with translation, it's called "acte de naissance plurilingue" and it will come with English translation. That's what I did, I ordered it end of May as I moved on June 12, it was valid until August 28, I had my NOA1 for my AOS August 19, so I should be okay if they take this date in consideration. Also the criminal record does not need to be translated into English." My fiance is doing an early medical meeting on September 4th. When is your medical scheduled? :)
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-08-27 said:
Thank you for the info ! Very useful :) I’ve got my medical appointment on September 24th ! Good luck for your fiance’s medical! Fingers crossed :) Let me know how it went :)

Hey how did it go with the doctor ?!

Hi there, this is Baptiste speaking! The medical exam went well, Slattery is quite nice, he looks like he is in his 50s haha. He check my body and did an eye sight test. Then his secretary gave me 2 papers with requests on them for the blood and urine test and X-Ray. I walked on the other side of the street to do the blodd test and went off on a 10 min walk to the "Radiology hospital". I had to come back to Slatterys Clinic at 15:30 so 3 hours after i was all done and I waited at the place and just relaxed there. So be prepared to wait a little in paris, have some lunch somewhere or go to a park :) But overall, despite the stress it all went better than i expected! :)

Hi Baptiste ! Thank you for your response :) I hope it goes as smooth as you for my appointment ! It is indeed quite stressful !.. Were you able to leave with all the results in a sealed envelope ? And did he give you the DS 3025 document needed for AOS stage ? Thanks in advance for your reply :)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-09-11 said:
His secretary gave me 2 envelopes, one for the the interview and another one for immigration officer once on US soil. Even though i forgot which one to bring to the interview haha, but at least I've got everything. I dont know about the ds 3025 because I haven't open either of the envelopes but I believe they gave me everything I need.

Hi Baptiste ! My interview is oct 2nd !! Please guys do send me your good vibes :) I’ll come back to you to let you know ! I so hope everything is gonna be ok !.. But first I’m going to my medical appointment on Wednesday !
Pleiades1618 on 2019-09-28 said:
Yes! We will send you lots of good vibes! When you did the affidavit of support, did you actually get a letter and signature from your banker for the bank statements? I’m a little confused about what the embassy wants with that? Hope you are all doing well!
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-09-28 said:
Thanks in advance for the good vibes Will be much needed :) As for your question nope my boyfriend just sent me the I134 affidavit of support and tax transcripts for the last 3 years (this would be needed for AOS but I read it’s good to have it for the interview if they want to look more into financial detail)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-01 said:
Thank you for the info! Sending good vibes and positivity for tomorrow!! :) :)

blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-10-02 said:
Here we are it’s done ! She said congratulations at the end of the interview so I guess I’m fine :) I still can’t quite realize it’s been such a long journey !.. Anyway the lady was quite friendly she asked me where did we meet ? Did I come to the US? What both my fiancé and I do for work ? When did we get engaged ? When’s the wedding ? And to show her pictures. That’s about it, I waited for about an hour before the interview. Interview itself was pretty quick. Your the next :) best of luck and I’m pretty sure all will be fine :) please let me know how it went :)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-04 said:
OMG congratulations!! Yay! Thank you! I hope it goes as smoothly as it did for you! :) I feel better now after hearing how good of an experience it was for you. We will definitely let you know how it goes :)
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-10-04 said:
Thank you ! :) Keep faith it will :) I’ve got a question do you think that will be a problem to buy a return ticket ? Because single one is far more expensive!
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-04 said:
https://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/202211-one-way-tickets-on-a-k1-visa/ Thank you! That’s a really good question! Some people talk about round trip vs one way on this thread :)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-04 said:
Also, I know you didn’t have a sponsor for financial support, but I’m having trouble getting a letter from my sponsor’s employer :( do you think that will be a problem? I was thinking if I can’t get the letter, then bank statements and tax returns would do... what do you think? :) I am including my bank statements and tax returns also.
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-04 said:
Also can you tell how long you waited before getting your passport back? Are they efficient? :)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-04 said:
Sorry, I know you haven’t gotten the passport yet haha instead, maybe just let me know when you get your passport back (my fiancé and I are both messaging on here and he forgot that you just had your interview 2 days ago) :)

I think you should be fine with I134 and tax returns (from the last 3years) The officer didn’t ask me any financial documents but better to have those with you. What do you mean about getting my passport back ? My passport is at the embassy right now ;-) but I’ll let you know when I’ll get it back :) they said I should receive the visa within 2 weeks !..
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-04 said:
Haha yeah sorry about that, my fiancé messaged while I was messaging you, he forgot that you just had your interview haha. We are supposed to turn in the DS-160, not the DS-260 right? I keep seeing things about the DS-260 for some reason. Also, when it says to bring the “interview appointment letter”, does that just mean the letter that was mailed that says that “your case has been received by the NVC and is now being transferred to the consulate in paris” OR, are they asking for the email confirmation that we scheduled an interview? Thank you!
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-10-04 said:
Haha no worries :) So what you need to bring is Confirmation page of the DS160 (no need of DS260 we’re not concerned about that) Bring also letter from the embassy saying they’ve received the I129 approved Also bring printed mail after you booked the interview . On that mail it shows the interview date and the fees paid
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-06 said:
Also if you want cheap one way flights there is always Norwegian and its direct :) And November is cheaper as well
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-10-08 said:
Thank you for that ! I checked but unfortunately Norwegian airline doesn’t go directly to Atlanta :( I probably have to have one stop somewhere !.. I’m still in AP !... hope my status changes really soon now !... Will keep you posted ;-)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-09 said:
Yes indeed Norwegian doesn't do direct for all destinations I just noticed ! I hope you get your visa soon! Keep me updated thank you! ;)

Just to let you know my status on CEAC has changed today from AP to issued !!! :) will let you know when I get visa in hands ! I’m nearly there and so you will be :)

Yay visa in hands today !!! :)) Next your turn :)

Good for you! Yay ! This is baptiste by the way, I have one last question and its concerning the birth certificate, I have only a copy do you think that will be okay ? My original will come in a week but it's a little too late. Im stressing a little just for that paper, if you know anything of course! Hope things will go well crossing fingers!
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-14 said:
Technically it is an extract that I ordered but people say it's the same as a copy since the country keeps the original, just want to clarify if this is right
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-10-14 said:
Hi Baptiste ! So what you’re saying is that you ordered an extract instead of integral copy is that right ?
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-10-14 said:
As long as it mentions your name date and place of birth and your parents names you should be fine. Do you have a stamp at the bottom and something saying it’s conformed to the original ?
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-14 said:
I dont have a tampon at the bottom. My parent ordered an integral extract of the birth certificate online. It will be mailed at the end of week.
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-14 said:
Just not sure the one I ha e us good I will send you photo of it so you can tell me if its the same :)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-14 said:
Okay well I cant send you a picture but the one I have has everything except tampon :)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-14 said:
The copy itself I think is an extract
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-10-14 said:
At least does it say « pour copie conforme «  ?
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-14 said:
Yes it does

Hi so I just did my interview and it went very well! Yay! Now I'm just waiting for my passport to arrive. By the way I remember they didnt give any sealed envelope for the immigration officer I wonder if that was supposed to happen? Did they give you something to bring with you to the us after your interview ? I do have another envelope that the medical gave to me and said to bring to the us, maybe that's the one. Anyways just want to make I got everything! And happy travel to your fiancee Baptiste
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-10-16 said:
Yay !! Well done and congrats :) no they didn’t give me anything but I received my passport with a sealed envelope that I’ll need to handover to the officer at port of entry. What the doctor gave us is a copy of our medical. We’ll need to put it with all the documents needed at AOS stage after marriage :)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-16 said:
Great ! Okay thank you so much for the info ! That's reassuring now we have everything. :) When will you be leaving for the states ? Hope you found a good flight. Good luck with the rest!
blank avatar Berthe Hallier on 2019-10-16 said:
Your welcome :) I’m leaving on November 4th!! I found an ok deal not too expensive but not direct and a pretty long wait at London but that’s ok ;-) what about you when do you plan on leaving ? Yes hope that AOS goes smoothly :) Let’s keep in contact we may need some advice from one another for the next step :)
Pleiades1618 on 2019-10-16 said:
I'm thinking between the 25th and 31st, but these date a little close to my passport arrival so I will wait for now. That's good at least you got a flight :) I'm looking for short layovers and no self transfer really but yeah they get more expensive. I agree let's stay in contact !

I haven't studied for the driving test yet but I hope to do so soon! Is it possible to get a driver's license without the AOS? I didn't have a french driver's license before... It was surprisingly easy to get a bank account from Wells Fargo. They didn't require an SSN or an ITIN number. They just needed a Passport :). We might bank with a credit union in the future when I get an SSN or ITIN number. We started filling everything out but we are a little nervous about the I-864. We have to have a joint sponsor who has enough money to meet the poverty line based on her assets and income from her job, but it barely meets the poverty line. I hope all goes well!! I'm sure it will be fine, I just get so nervous haha.

Well I finally won’t be able to pass the driving test anytime soon :( because my I94 is about to expire I now have to wait for my work authorization and SSN. Basically they need to have a new document from USCIS with a new expiration date.... Otherwise I’ve got a question for you guys it’s about I485 are you sending the original marriage certificate ?? I wanted to send a copy but apparently most people send the original one and copies for I765 and I131. What do you think ?

Hey there! This is baptiste, sorry for the late reply, we have been very busy! Also I'm sorry you cant get your license because of your I-94, mine is expiring soon but I haven't started the driving lessons, so will do when everything is done. But to answer your question, I have looked it up, apparently it's okay to send your certified copy of your marriage certificate. At the courthouse we also paid 2 dollars for a certified copy of our marriage certificate. Hey there ! It's so nice to hear from you! Our process was definitely a ride, we had our interview at 10:30am and it went overall pretty well, the officer was kinda nice and he verbally approved our case at the end. Of ourse he also asked some questions that were very personal and sometimes a little random so dont be taken back cause it's just what they have to do. And I will try and post my full experience soon this week. I'm really sorry it's taking so long for you, seems Georgia has maybe some issues with their USCIS Office? (Covid 19 or Backlogged) Anyways I really hope you get a interview date very soon in the mail and I'm sure you will at some point dont give up! Let me know if you have to do the medical again I wish you the best Berthe. Keep in touch :)

Hey guys ! once again Big Congrats ! Really happy for you ! Here in Atlanta it’s still running at a slow pace :( so far I’ve seen people who filed in November 2019 starting to be scheduled ! Let’s say slowly but surely ;) So I really hope our turn will come early 2021!.. Plus I miss My family and my country so I really hope I can visit next summer ! I wish I could go now but I know it wouldn’t be the best time anyway with the whole covid thing... Anyway on a more positive subject I was able to get my drivers license mid September so at least it’s nice to go around and about :) I still haven’t seen your post for the review of your interview ;) hope you’re still planning on doing it :) Have a merry Christmas guys :) Your GC is definitely a great gift :)

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
