Embassy Review : My daughter and I had our EB-3 visa (Employment Immigrant Visa) interview today at the US embassy in Kingston. My appointment time was 8:00am so I arrived just past 7:00am and waited in the car until 7:25. Luckily I went across the road, where the crowd waits to hear there appointment times called, just to here the police officer calling persons for 8:00. I went across the road and joined the line.

Bear in mind that this is a lengthy review..so bear with me. ☺️

We went through the security section where they tell you the items that are not allowed, including electronic items, pens/pencils, food/drink/water, umbrellas etc. However, they have a tuck shop inside so you can purchase something to eat or drink if needed.

Then we went through first screening at an outdoor desk inside the embassy grounds. That was a quick process as they basically just check to see if you’ve registered for courier services and that you actually have an appointment. You are given a ticket with a number at this time.

Next we went inside to the far right section where there are seats. To the left where the nonimmigrant visa applicants are, there are no seats. We were called up to a window to do finger printing and verification of some info. We handed in our pic and documents, including civil documents and employment letter dated less than 1 month. Then we were asked to go back and sit and listen for our names to be later called. This was approximately 8:15am.

This is the part that really tests your patience. We waited and waited. However, we were distracted from the long waiting by listening to the other immigrant applicants interviews. Most persons were denied because they didn’t have all their necessary documents. So it’s important to research online and be over prepared.

My name was called at about 10:25am and upon going up to the consular officer at the window, my daughter and I were sworn in. We were asked basic questions like:
• Have you ever been arrested?
•Do you have a US visa?
• What’s your profession?
• How long have you worked in your profession?
• When did you do your licensing exam?

The officer was quite friendly and made the interview quite comfortable. He then said I’m going to have to cancel your visas because you’re getting an upgrade. He then smiled and said your visas are approved. I didn’t get any paper from him so I asked if we’re to get any kind of paper with instructions. He said that because we had registered prior to the interview for courier service for our passports then there’s no further instruction for us to receive.

We said thanks and we left. It was a great experience overall. Good luck!!!😉
