Consulate Review: Bogota, Colombia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : May 29, 2018
Embassy Review : Really short wait time and extremely nice staff! I arrived 5 minutes before my appointment time (7:30 am) and was directed inside the embassy right away. A lady in a table organized my documents (she only included my DS160 confirmation, birth certificate, police record, i134 with evidence, passport and passport style pictures, and closed medical envelope) and gave me back everything that she didn’t need, including all the relationship evidence. After going through the security checkpoint I was asked about my visa type and upon informing them that it was a K1 they made me skip the line (which I assume is for all other non-immigrant types) and I went straight to a lady in a table who checked my documents again and instructed me to approach a window where I talked to a lady through a telephone. She asked me my information, opened the medical envelope, and clipped my papers together inside my passport. She told me to go back to the lady in the table who gave me a numbered card and told to sit and wait. At 8:00 am they called my number and I was instructed to approach window number 4, where I talked to a CO via a telephone. She was probably the nicest person I have encountered in this process! She asked how we met and how my fiancé proposed and when I was telling her she kept smiling and saying “aw that’s cute”. Then she checked my papers and grabbed a red folder from a box behind her desk (I assume this is the file that NVC sends them) and she did some checking in her computer. Then she asked me if either one of us had been married before, if I had ever lived outside Colombia and if I had ever been in trouble with the law. Then after one more minute of checking in her computer she told me with a big smile “congratulations your visa is approved. All the best for your new life”. She then informed me that my tourist visa would be cancelled and it would take two weeks or less to receive my passport. Oh I forgot to mention that when i first approached her window she asked if I speak English and I said yes so the entire interview was conducted in English.

Event Description
Entry Date : 2018-06-05
Embassy Review : Very easy! Was advised to go on a special line (well there was actually no line I was the first one there). Stood there for 5 minutes until and officer arrived and called me to her window. i handed her my package and passport, she looked at it and instructed me to follow her into a different room. Once there I waited for about 10 minutes until I was called to a window and the officer there just handed me back my passport and said welcome to the US enjoy your new life here.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
