Comments : Note to Turkey filers: Good news, as of April 2018 there are very few immigrant visas issued from Turkey (only about 10 K-1 visas/month), so once you receive your NVC number, the process moves very fast. Also, when your case is sent to NVC, your case is in the electronic group! This means you'll wait a little longer for your NVC# because they are inputting your information as opposed to simply forwarding it to the embassy. (Don't panic if this part takes longer.) The good news is that once you have an NVC#, the embassy should receive your case very quickly because it's sent electronically. You can fill out your DS-160 and do your medical appointment before your case even gets to the embassy.

We scheduled the medical appointment, as soon as we got the case number, for the very next day (April 3). The embassy hadn't received our paperwork yet but it wasn't a problem. We also filled out the DS-160 immediately after receiving the NVC number. The Turkish packet is available on the embassy website, so there's no need to wait for it. Nothing came in the mail. All communication was over email.

Event Description

Embassy Review : Overall a very pleasant experience. First I went through security. My appointment was at 8 a.m. and I entered at 7:30 a.m. Electronic devices were not allowed. There were very few immigrant visa applicants so the wait was not too long. I received a number. When the number was called, I provided the necessary paperwork (photos, police record, family records, I-134, evidence of the relationship). The woman was Turkish. She was quite rude and it definitely made me nervous. Then I waited about two hours for my number to be called again. I went to a second window and spoke with a very nice (Turkish) woman who had me swear to tell the truth. Then she asked the following questions:
How and when did you meet?
What were you doing when you met?
What was she doing when you met?
When did you see her last?
How did you propose?
What are her mother and father's names?
Have you met her family?
What kind of wedding will you have?
Will you have a wedding here or there?
What is her job?
How did you find the money to travel? (After I mentioned we traveled together.)
How do your families understand each other? (After I told her my fiancee's mom was visiting.)

She was especially friendly and smiley after I mentioned that my fiancee was waiting for me outside the embassy.

At the end of the interview, she smiled and said, "Congratulations, your visa is approved." She said the visa would arrive in 3-5 days, and not to worry if it takes a little bit longer.

The entire process was conducted in Turkish. All of the workers at the embassy were very friendly and helpful (except for the woman at the first window.)
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
